My Tames Keep Dying!

during taming my boars and wolves keep dying. Nothing is attacking them and they die almost immediately after being tamed or beginning of taming process. I do not know if it is a bug due to the Hearth & Home update or if it is Valheim Plus. All i know is it keeps happening and it is becoming very upsetting. I have done everything. I have uninstalled the game, I have deleted my mods and run the game normally and everything else. I tested dev commands to see if my spawned tames would stay and they died about 2 hours in real life. Over time it took tames less and less time to die. Is this a bug from Valheim? Why am i getting phantom tame deaths? Thank you.

1: Add screenshots of your pens
2: Add a list of mods you use

If a mod kills your tamed animals, why should the mod care when you tamed them.

So i see 3 possibilitys
1: Your pen has a mob spawner nearby and is not so safe as you claim
2: A mod causes this
3: A other player has fun to grief you

Can you stand there and watch them take damage on their health bar? Give one a name and follow it around. Pretend you're Sherlock Holmes.

they die suddenly without anything attacking them. I have had them in my home and they died. Deleted all mods and they still died. I fed them to heal and they died still. They explode like animals on there do when they die. Is it a glitch with the new knife that allows you to kill them? I killed my pet before because they were not moving off the stairs and i couldnt walk down and ever since then my pets keep dying. It isnt anywhere a spawn point either.

I've used the butcher knife a bunch without issues. But not with mods active. My experience has never included mods in Valheim but in other games weird bugs that no one else had seemed to be often linked to mods.
Just for laughs and fingers crossed turn the friendly fire setting on and off with a test between switching. It's the only tame related 'kill' thing I can think of in game.

OP is going to have to use console commands if he wants to solve or diagnose this further. All the usual scenarios have been mentioned - mods, unique bug to OP, some base game dmg source, enemy spawn, etc.

1. enable console

2. OP says he can see the boars explode so he knows the exact spot where one died - goto that spot and stand there

3. build small 1x1 or 2x2 square cage

4. use console command to spawn boar 1 (or anything that takes dmg, a nek, whatever

5. jump out of the spot and now sit there and wait 1-2 full game days/nights watching what happens

if the new spawned creature explodes and dies, something is either wrong with that spot - some dmg source you can't see or OP has some hilarious yet sad bug unique to his world / savegame

if the new spawned creature doesn't take any dmg, then I have no other ideas since OP has said tried moving to new spot and says has same problem. that point, either live with unique bug or give up on Valheim. Not being mean but after exploring all diagnosis options, that's what it comes down to.

use good walls, not the 'fence'
fence is easily broken by the untamed animals and mobs

on my good pen i use the low brick walls (and doors), easy to jump over (and throw food over) and stops small mob attacks

build a workbench in the middle to stop enemies from spawning in it

on my main building i put the boars in my moat around the house, just keep throwing food (and overstock bones and greydwarf eyes) down to them

Make sure there's absolutely no way skeletons can shoot into the pen. They will kill every single boar. Have workbenches on and around the pen to prevent night time mobs from spawning in. As for wolves honestly unless you dedicate to making an all stone structure with roof there's no protecting them from frostdrakes in the mountains, not worth taming IMO.

I'm not sure how often it happens, but I have seen an issue where structures load in AFTER mobs do, in online servers, allowing mobs to move in or tamed animals to move out of it, before they become solid. That was an older bug though that happened to me before but hasn't since.

Might be another mod. Base game, my tame animals are fine, as is in-process of taming wild boar or wolves (not up to lox yet).

With Valheim Plus, same thing - taming animals work fine for me.

From what you described, seems like some sort of dmg source is near your taming process location. Try moving to new pen / area and test?

Then by process of logical elimination - we are back to some sort of base game damage source near your tame animals -or- some odd bug that affects only you.

Overall, base game or Valheim Plus, there isn't a large spread issue of tame animals dying mid-process or post-taming.
