It occurred to me later that this would be the circumstance in which I would most likely run out of stamina.

I didn't know rolling was a thing until I tried jumping to the side while blocking. Too much Warframe, I guess. Wish it were as simple as there, though. In Warframe, you just tap sprint.

There is a number of things like that in the game. For a long time I didn't know how to access the skills list. I'd see people do it a lot in YouTube videos but couldn't figure out how to get there. Now that I know, I also know that skills don't matter much.
I still don't know how to roll/dodge. I could easily go look and find out but now my game style is set and I probably would use it if I knew. Say, "Lovey".

This is primarily an experiential learning type game and not an on the rails/tutorial based one.

If you feel there are things you need to learn more, let's play and tutorial youtube videos by other players, the wiki, other written guides and more are available resources.

Easily solved by placing down a ward and fiddling with it, trying to figure out how it works.

Hugin gives enough hints on how stuff works imo and the rest is filled with basic massing around

looking at a ward will show some onscreen hint text to activate
holding a hoe will also put hints on screen for rightclick

There is the wikipedia for Valheim reachable through the Valheim website. There's guides here on Steam in the guides section. Keep your eyes open, and you will find them. ;)
