500 units of Copper

I have 500 units of Copper stored at Dark Forest, what is the most efective way to move that amount at large distance quickly? Without cheating ofc.

My record is a little over 2000 weight in a cart. Dragged it through black forest, through meadows, to a seaside house where the boat was. It wasn't a short distance. 500 copper is what... 5000 weight? That could be done in three loads in a cart, depending on terrain. It was not easy dragging that cart though... :)

What do you need the copper for? 500 is quite a bit, does it *need* to go back to the base? if you are using it for gear, it might be worth it to build a new base/smelter/forge and build the gear you need, and portal that back. It also depends on the distance involved, I've never moved large amounts of copper great distances (All close enough so that making a road to my main base is pretty easy), but I have done with Iron/Silver, and in that event it's almost always best to find a sea route with short hops with a cart, as a full cart, even with a road as climbing inclines can be a real pain.

For me personally, i find i like building infrastructure, so will literally spend a day building all that i need to transport the goods, instead of trying to haul it without it. but That wouldn't count as the quickest..

I assume 'without cheating' implies that the copper never leaves its current world.

Carts are about the slowest option. Depending on your resources and the terrain you could consider a cart parked on a karve, or loading it all into your pockets and riding a lox.

Without cheats or seed hopping, there is no "quickly" really.

1. Boats if close.
2. Carts if you can take it slow and careful.
3. Lox riding. You can encumber yourself loaded with metal, ride a lox and you wont lose stamina while riding. You may though consider this cheating but I look at it more like lox hauling.

Holy cow... So I will haul it on ship then, it looks like the most safe way to me.

Probably easier to build a portal and move your forge to the copper.

Was thinking that too.

Is water involved? A longship is the best for transporting ore, the cart is far too annoying and requires high maintenance for transporting that much ore. Give some details, or better yet a map pic, so as to get better and more precise advice.

Otherwise, you're hoofing it over a dozen times back and forth.

I believe the general intent of the portal restrictions is to motivate us to build secondary bases around the world.

The map would help.
the karve is pretty fast, and hold 4 stacks of 30. You can hold more, though: steering the boat or riding in it does not consume stamina. So you can cart it to the nearest shore, break the cart, make the boat, boat as close as possible to your home, make the cart, and haul it over. But that assumes some reasonable boating path. If the straight line is over land, then you cart it anyway. This is a little cheaty since you are holding more than you can carry for the boat ride.

If you have to leave it to go do something to enable moving it, put it in a chest. You don't want to risk despawn.

Perhaps a smarter solution is to bring the smelter to the copper? Depends on your goals.

Moving ore is one of the biggest challenges in the game if you don't cheat. All the ore in the world isnt useful if it takes a week before you can make use of it... I always try to mine near a shore.

Cart is better for just moving the ore to something nearby. If it's a longer distance, just use the cart to move it to a boat since the cart is awful for the terrain we usually need it for. I wish there was an actual in-game reason for the ore teleport thing, because it just feels like it's a bit forced since I always put the portals in their own houses anyway. Moving ore is never hard, just time consuming.
