I miss the sleep ore churn, the ores still cook faster but you're not forced to listen to fast tempoed CLUNG-CLUNG-CLUNG. Same for the kiln SsSsSsSsS. I don't know why they changed the audio cues for sleeping, they should change it back.

Sleeping advances the clock till the start of the next day. So sleep 8 hours before dawn = lots gets smelted, right before dawn = next to none gets smelted

Sort of. They don't actually smelt faster but the time it takes to smelt them passes faster so, you wake up to a finished smelter.
