Frequent crashes and/ or BSOD after reinstall crashes/ gives BSOD at starting the game

The first 5-7 hrs after installing the game everything worked fine. Then the game started to crash in infrequent intervalls . I guess that's whenever my game could not handle the worldsave... For the last three days the game either ran for some time or there would be different BSODs (kmode, System, watchdog, irql...).
Then i searched for "BSOD" here in the forum and tried a reinstall. Now the game crashes right when I try to start to enter my world or even crashes before i reach the main screen.

My machine is rather new, the drivers are all updated and i can easily play SCII 4v4 and LoL and other resource intensive games... In fact its only "indy games" like Trailmakers or Dungeon of Naheulbeuk that more than occasionally crash/ cause BSODs.

Please advise

LoL and SC are designed to be as not-demanding as possible. They run on a potato. What hardware do you have? Steam Client - Help menu - System information, throw it here. And what PSU is powering your system?

I've had some bsods while playing Valheim and watching a stream on my second monitor, but only in firefox, any chromium browser didn't have this problem. And Vulkan patch fixed it for good.

Thx for answering, I guess the little German in the data won't put you off too much ...

Are you actually saying i should try the Vulkan version instead?

Yeah, your system is good, try Vulkan and if it doesn't help, try rolling to an older GPU driver (use DDU to uninstall drivers first https://www.wagnardsoft.com/ ), i've read some reports of people having thier performance seriously hurt by latest drivers.

And you are using two monitors too, try not to run anything on your second one, maybe it's the same problem that was happening to me. But again, vulkan fixed it.

edit: new driver 461.72 was released feb 25th, maybe it fixed those driver problems.

If that doesn't help, try a totally fresh install of the game after backing up your saves:
  • Backup your save game(s)
  • Uninstall Valheim through Steam
  • Manually delete the game's install folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Valheim)
  • Manually delete the save folder (WinKey-R, type in 'appdata' without quotes, double-click LocalLow, find "Irongate" folder and delete it )
  • Clear Steam's download cache using these instructions[heroesandgenerals.com]
  • Reinstall the game fresh
  • Validate the files through your library / game properties
  • Try running it with standard settings (don't modify any) and see if you can create/start a new SP game without crashing.

I have a suspicion it might be the GTX 2070... I've been having similar stability issues - crashing infrequently but usually right around the time it should be autosaving.

I had similar issues with ARK - that game doesn't like the GTX 2070 either. I had to change the settings (terrain shadows) to a specific setting in order to stop the crashes. My advice: play with the graphical settings related to lighting and see if it affects your stability (I've not found a setting that fixes it yet but I've not tried everything).
