recently (within the last week) i caught a 1* & went away from it before it started taming, it despawned. then caught a 1* and 2* & i stuck around until they started taming. after they began the process i was able to leave them without them despawning.
also of note. when i had the 1 and 2* in the pen. day came and they had not started taming yet. both showed behavior as if they were trying to run away as soon as the sun came up, and did not seem to recognize me as a threat. i was able to drop down into the pen and do stuff without any apparent reaction from them. once night came again, the taming process began, and i was again recognized as a threat.

I don't know if this is related or not, but wanting to level my blocking I thought it would be clever to collect a bunch of Greydwarves in a pit, drop myself into the pit, and proceed to block the endless assault and gleefully watch my block rise.

THey didn't attack. Not a one. Once i had them in a confined space they just looked at me over their shoulders and walked endlessly in place against the walls of the pit.

I wonder if there is some kind of ai algorithm that keeps them from attacking if they don't have a pathway out of an area.

Yea i just tamed another one (Found a FOB for Plains main base). Didn't despawn either

Well I do too if what was said is true. Last I knew the only way I could tame 2*'s was as I described. Haven't had to in quite awhile too. Wasn't aware they changed that.

bah, crap. even tamed ones i'm assuming? If you have bred them... and the cub spawns during the day, does that count as a night spawn?

I tamed a 2 star wolf at the meadows and it didn't despawn (Had to regrab meat) But it says on the updates night time creatures shouldn't run away/despawn :|

Note i had to kite it into the pen and toss meat in there, but can confirm it doesn't despawn :P

Yea i did, i was in the middle of the snow biome mountain (Smallish mountain but had dragon eggs etc). but i was like 50% out of the Mountain biome when i caught it. :)

I even went through a portal to grab meat. (Risked it) but when i came back and saw it wasn't there (But was waiting for me under the plank of wood waiting for me to jump in, i got the crap scared out of me lol).

I think the only thing that actually despwans in plain sight is the Fenring*

If you lure one into a pen at night, you have to stay very close to it so it doesn't despawn until it's tamed. Once it's tamed, no, they don't despawn.

If you go too far from it before it's tamed, yes, it will despawn.
