I think using the hoe is as much "cheesing the game" as eating food, honestly. If you want to challenge yourself, go for it. If not, that's cool, too. If you ask for advice and someone tells you "use the Hoe, Luke; the Hoe is with you," and you don't like that solution, then go with some other solution.

Its not really an advantage thou, its a feel good item. Most issues that hoe fixes can be achieved faster without it, but when you do use it, it just feels nice.

Also in any survival game that features extensive terraforming, you can use these tools to a combat advangage. Starting with Minecraft for example.

Yes. I forgot about hoe until Mistlands. :D More than 100h. I am not into building.

You could, but you would be missing out on some of the hoe's best potential by not using it. I for one typically use the hoe to make large winding paths in the swamp to better help navigate or use a cart if need be. Helps keep the leeches at bay too.

Also can't stand not having a flat area to work with when building a new dwelling so theres that too. Oh & using earth pillars for support helps a bunch for castles/ large builds too.

I just slaped box next to existing building. I have two main buildings with teleports, upgraded workstations and bedroom. Others are just repaired existing buildings with fire.

thats sounds awesome i like and understand the value of it better now but...it just seems a little to overpowered mabey like a crutch

Yeah, i only use the hoe for building purposes to make flat land so it's just more convenient to build on. But you can definitely build bases without it, even on generally uneven terrain, just build supports. Some people seem to really depend on it though it seems, whether to make literally impenetrable walls, aka exploiting the AI, or just flatten out terrain in combat related scenarios.

But i must say, moats and raise ground walls are without a doubt the biggest cheese.

So yeah it definitely can be beat without it.

Actually trying to pull of said cheese tactics is a mission in itself and its boggling to think people think it's easier to do that stuff than just playing the game with the weapons available

this is what i was saying i would like to do this with skill not a work around thank you Fzanco. almost every post as far back as you want says raise the ground or use the hoe to block stuff pretty much the hoe is the op weapon of the game

This games strenght lies in that there are many ways to solve each issue.

I think the reason hoe is mentioned everywhere is that some people are used to fixing issues with tools and hand holding game mechanics rather than adjusting their playtyle to situation. Which is fine, but its not the only way to play in more open ended games like this.

You can say similar for Bow, you can go whole game without one just fine, or metal armour.
