Just don't waste bronze on armor. It's only slightly better protection than troll armor, plus it slows you down 10%.

As noted earlier in the thread, you can 'log roll' normal trees into birch trees and logs until they shatter. And a flint ax will still fell pine trees to get core wood. Once you have both you can make a finewood bow. Once you have the finewood bow (and fire arrows) you are ready to take on trolls, and the first boss is a walk in the park. You can skip the crude bow completely this way.

For fine wood you should also always be on the lookout for ship wrecks along the coast. I find them in the black forrest and they give 30 fine wood or close to it.

There is also some buildings in the world that have some small pieces of furniture in them, you can destroy them, and gain the resources.

If copper knife is your only new weapon recipe, you only have found copper. Check the shoreline of black forest for shiny lumps of tin ore. Once you've smelted tin, you can make bronze at the forge, then bronze items will appear as crafting options.

cut down a regular tree and push the log towards a fine wood tree it does damage but not much but it will eventually break it. just a random thing i found out no to long ago im only 35 hours in

You will need the bronze pickaxe soon, but it's not that important right now. The 3 bone pickaxes you can make are good enough to carry you through the next boss.

At this point I'd make the bronze buckler, troll armor, and any upgrades to your workstation/forge. You're main focus should be upgrading your bronze axe to max available level, and then prolly upgrading your buckler, and then troll armor, before the next boss. GL.
