Boar Raising.....

Started a new game and almost instantly made a boar farm. Is the breeding dependent on the enclosure size? My last farm was VERY slow growing. Any other things i, and anyone else, should know?

I started with 2x2 squares for 2 boars while I was building up this area and added 2 squares for every 2 piggies. Also, they eat the regular mushrooms and berries excluding cloudberries.

I made several large enclosures[at least 7x7 large floor tiles] and average about 12+boars in each as a 'max'...that's more than enough stock of 2-** boars @ 4 hanks of meat per to fill my needs. No wacky breeding tower, just open pens with enough space. In the open areas nearby, I plant and tend crops while the breeding process continues, which is close enough to hear the audible cues of the process steps. There's more than enough wild raspberries nearby to sustain the entire facility, the veggies are for human consumption. I like visiting "HogFarm"....it's a chill relaxing spot in a meadow, next to a creek.

Right now, l'm in the process of determining the maximum obtainable count of 2-** wolves in my 12x12 pen[12 4x2 stone walls, so I guess 24x24]; it gonna be a large pack...give breeding stock enough space to get 5 tiles between groups/clusters is my secret[hence 7x7 as a min]. When I feed, I spread clusters of ~5 food units around in the corners to help spread them out...

Have a portal inside or near your breeding pen and then have your veggie farm and tree farm nearby as well.

What I've got going on my solo character is a earthen wall enclosure with fencing at the top. Then my boar pen with fencing next to my veggie farm with the portal kind in between the two. I then plant trees outside the enclosure. This way when I want to check my farm or chop trees down things should update to a point.

Also be sure to use the map to mark down resources. Berries = B or 6B (however many are in a given group), Mushroom = M and so on and so forth. Should make it easy to do resource runs for feeding the boars until your farm has excessive amounts of veggies.

main issue is staying in range. im always travelling so my boars dont have much chance to mate. i end up eating mostly other foods.

Mine grew well, i started off with 4 boars seperated them into 2 pens and named them. Once they birthed more i split them again into another pen and they bred aswell so boars with the same parents will still breed, split them again into another pen and grow your farm like that. kill off any until 2 are left in each pen, you can grow your boar farm exponentially that way. I go off for a couple of days and they still breed when i'm away...

1) You should really only breed 2 star boars. Make that a priority. You only need one , you can get a 2 star by breeding with a no star. Once you have 2 eliminate anything that isn't 2 star.

2) They need to be touching in order to "mate" (sounds obvious). The best way to accomplish this with boars is to let them all get hungry ( they cannot die or untame by starvation). Then toss a stack in the middle most point.

3) Space, the more the better. Population growth is limited by available space.

How much space? A boar's length?

Food isn't an issue since i always toss a stack of berries in the pen. I suppose i have to stay in camp for awhile, maybe start up a build project if that is the case.

They will stop breeding if they are too crowded. They also need food in order to breed.
