Cascade Filing
I'm interested in finding ways to improve qol in the unmodded game. The goal of cascade filing is to save time by filing things in stacks, not one at a time.
Designate a chest, one of the big ones, or a stack of small ones, to be the Big Box of Unfiled Stuff. When you come home with goodies, everything goes into this box. If it is all accepted, that is the end of your filing for today. Resist the temptation to put things away immediately just because you know where they go.
When the bbufs gets full and starts to reject things, you file everything that is at least half a stack or more.
The amount of time this saves is incredible. You'll have way more time for exploring and building.

I regularly use "middens" to dump the stuff I don't want and then go get it when I want it. It is way humans always did it, through all the junk in a hole. I wonder if I can make junk sorter facility... Well finished exams so may give it a go in creative.

Ok, so here it is the Middenator v1.0
This is the top level sorting platform underneath could be a second tier for which you can add more paths to sort. The limit is how high do you want to build.
Once sorted you can have containers at the bottom to gather up into top level categories, or a second sorting option. I think this is an improvement over a single pile of rubbish.
Building a full version on mountainside would be my recommendation
Some items sort well on the low angle roof, some need the higher angle (wood and flour). I have not tested with the scale roof, it might provide different properties.
Place a foot bar and aim into the skip at bottom, then chuck items out your inventory.

Did this on live account, if you want to create a giant waste dump on a shared server would be pretty cool imo.

I like Jitatha's idea better the more I think about it. It is pure Valheim.

Of course you can use sorting algorithms for putting stuff away if that is your thing and yes maybe its more efficient however there is another method.
Dump everything in one giant pile of junk.
Put in each inventory slot what you want to pick up, 1 item of the type.
Run through the pile, you then pick up a stack of what you want.
Just make sure chests are organised well.
I bet that would work, too. You just need a room for your giant pile of junk.

Junk as you say should go into the obliterator and you get coal back from Gods.

But what else am I supposed to do at night? that's when you do all your inventory management.
Sleep. In later stages of the game, you can go out at night in biomes that you have conquered, even during thunderstorms. (A good thunderstorm at night is the best time to chop wood)
The reason you have been filing at night is to make the day free for building and exploration. It takes no time to dump your stuff into the bbus and if it's not full, you're done.
When it does get full of some item, you can defer filing until night if you have some sort of overflow chest. Any adjacent chest that is not full will do.

Thanks for the chance to clarify. In the language of system requirements:
Designating and assembling one or more chests to receive incoming loot prior to filing, aka the Big Box(s) of Unfiled Stuff shall be done by the player.
Putting items into the bbus shall be done by the player.
Grouping items in the bbus into stacks shall be done by the game.
Rejecting an item when there is no more room shall be done by the game.
Taking stacks out of the bbus to file in permanent filing shall be done by the player.
Note that the game already does what it is required to do. The benefit to the player is that filing things in (automatically assembled) stacks is more efficient than filing them as they come in. The time you save can be startling if you to stick to the system and resist the temptation to file things as they come in.

So you want to do something that the game doesn't have, but won't mod the game? Ummmm good luck.

Responding to your tone: I fully intend to use mods someday, but I am interested in exploring the unmodded game now. Is that OK with you?
This relates to the grind problem, which I don't think is a problem, at least not as much as some people think, because in the first place, there are mods, and in the second place the player has a brain. Games give us puzzles because it is fun to use your brain.

There are people who want to add a servant class to the game because they don't want to do for themselves or use mods.
If these servants would occasionally revolt or trick you, that might be interesting, so I'm not dead set against the idea. In fact, I loved it at first, but it could potentially harm the essence of a survival game, which is self-reliance.

So are you asking for the devs to implement cascade filling? Because it was not clear in your first post.
