I'm quickly approaching the 1300 hours played mark. In my opinion, this game in its current state is awesome. The fact that its still not finished is just icing on the cake.

What people are not realizing is to get the game to release it took 10 years. Then suddenly they (those with ants in the pants) are expectING this small group of devs to wrap it all up in 4-8 months.

The game is probably my favorite game of all time.

I say play NOW.

I've started over a few times, but lately my new thing is to build ...build...and build some more. Its very much like minecraft in that way, you're only done when you run out of ideas that keep you motivated. You're only limited by your own imagination.

Is it enjoyable right now? Yes, definitely. But it has its flaws that can ruin the experince.
So it is maybe better to wait.

It has content for ~100 hours right know, but the best thing in that content is discovering the world and how things work. So if you play the game in this state it will give less joy in the future when the game will be in a more finished state.

The grind, microing everything some unfinished part of the game can make you gave up after 10-20 hours. Some mods can help to decrease the pain, but it is frustrating and because of this part I would recommend to wait.

I think to enjoy the game for 1300 hours, you really need to play with a huge group of your friends on a modded server and you really need to enjoy the building aspect of the game.

The TLDR is this: If you're having fun, keep playing.

I say play it now. I've thoroughly enjoyed the current gameplay and content. It's got some issues, but overall it's one of the best experiences I've had with a game in the last couple years, maybe longer. I couldn't tell someone not to play it now because they may rob themselves of the experience many of us have had. You also never know what tomorrow is going to bring, so play it while you can.

Since the game is still in EA they may make changes that significantly affect gameplay as development continues, and they may make changes that people who like the current gamplay might not like. I say this because I've been reading up on some of the food changes and I'm not sure I like where they're going with the game. I like the current, simple system they have in place and they're moving to make it slightly more complicated with more numbers and clutter on the UI.

What I'm getting at is getting things just right can be a rather thin line and it is very easy to step over it. I hope that I love what they end up doing with the game because it's been mostly nothing short of amazing so far, but you never know. Even if they were to completely ruin the gameplay (I highly doubt this will happen) it's been worth every penny and I'm satisfied with the fun I've had with Valheim so far.

If you play it now, and like it, you'll very likely be one of the many satisfied customers and there's a chance you may enjoy it even further once development progresses. If not, and you like it now but end up disliking some of the upcoming content or changes, then you had a chance to play the game when the gameplay was in a state that made most players happy with it.

5 guys took 10 years to get to where we are at...and now you want them to finish in 5 months.

It is a good excuse, but they had the money and the time to expand the group.
Also if you check the mods you can see during this time modders did better job.

My problem with the updates they are touching things that should not be priority.
And they are ignoring the problems.

It is not that hard to add crafting from chests, better farming and this type of QoL updates.
Instead of these they started to touch the Harpoon and other random things.

With the bigger update they will rework the food system, probably the most depth system in the game right know. I feel like this system only needs a small touch on the decay effect and not a rework.
Plus after reading their plan it feels like it will end up as a stamina nerf. While the stamina system is already a pain.

Meanwhile solo modders in their freetime are making, classes... drop system with different modifiers on items and bounties. All of these are touching the game where it is very barebone and adding things that make the game enjoyable for longer.

ok..so you're gonna compare 100's maybe even 1000's of modders to a group of 5 guys?
You have a problem with the pace of their work, I do not.

IDK every person is different.

For myself I just take a world to Yag and start a new seed and character. Up to 15 or so at this point.

The game will let you have as many world saves and character saves as you want so do what you find fun.

Depends. I have no issue getting a point and restarting a game. I’ve done it a dozen times with this one. If you don’t like that then maybe waiting for new content is best for you.

play as much as you like, why not? you're gonna have fun regardless.

Play until you aren't having fun. It is really that simple.
