lvl 5 bench?

How do I get my bench to lvl 5? Seems like I can upgrade my forge higher than my workbench at this stage (I'm just starting swamp). I want to either upgrade my troll armor now that I have excess troll hide or I might just make iron armor if I find enough ore

I don't think I have ever had a full set of troll, just a cape, but this playthrough I didn't even bother with that ha ha.

Bronze armor is the one that should always be skipped. It's only 6 points of protection better than Troll, slows you down 10%, and takes just a stupid amount of mining thanks to needing 2 copper and 1 tin per bronze. It's the most resource intensive armor in the game with the worst stat increase.

Works fine for me. Troll is pointless to me since I don't really sneak. Any benefit is better as far as I am concerned. I don't normally run from enemies either so speed isn't the most important thing to me either.

I feel a lot safer fighting Bonemass with Bronze over troll. Thus I can save all that iron for padded and upgrades for tools etc. Entering the mountains is also fine with Bronze to me. It holds up well enough until you get wolf. After that you can safely enter the plains.

But to each their own... I won't judge you for using troll. If it fits your playstyle then go for it.

Tool Shelf. You'll need iron (swamp) and obsidian (mountains) in addition to Fine Wood.
If you have some frost resistance potions and and Iron Pickaxe you can mine Obsidian, its in small nodes sticking out of the surface on mountains.

I have full troll lvl 2* but I'm getting my ass kicked in the swamp. I think Iron will be a nice upgrade

bring a hoe and some poison resist mead, swamp should be trivial with even troll armour

N.W.O. if you get your butt kicked make sure you get the weapons the mobs are vulnerable for (youll see yellow dmg numbers), most likely maces will do the trick along with a poison res potion

Like said above, where to get the mats, the Mountain only go during the day, make a small outpost near by with a bed, so if a wolf gets up. also make camp fires often, unless you have made Frost Resist potions. the obsidian is mainly on higher spots of the mountains well.

Swamp is a slow mover, like said above Hoe a path, helps a lot and I use a bow on Slime's and Leeches 2-3 arrows each and if you have the Key from the 2nd boss, open up all the crypts and put a camp fire inside each helps while moving. Cart and a small outpost outside the swamp is nice, I put up a Portal so I can repair and make break my boat down and store it in a chest till I sail.

I also went directly from troll to iron. It's a good call. Don't skip silver until you get padded though; silver armor is too good and too stylish to pass up. It's also the only armor that comes with frost resist (though there are two capes that do the same thing).

As a spear main, I knew I would need some blunt damage in the swamp so I brought a stagbreaker. Works really well on slimes and skellies, and also in the crypts for attacking around corners or through mud piles. It also works ok on leeches, but it just makes them flee. If you want the blood bags and you're a spear main the spear throw at close range works really well against leeches.

Also, for anyone who is a fan of the stagbreaker the sledgehammer is awesome, and you get it in the swamp. It unlocks when you get a Draugr Elite trophy, so find a spawner (the castle spawners are much easier to take on than the standing circle spawners) and kill them until a trophy drops.

This was how it was for my wife and I. Had a hard time even breaking into the swamp at first. But it's not just the difficulty of the mobs there. It's a different approach. The more time you spend there, the easier it will get, and that will happen before you even start upgrading anything.

For us, playstyle became a lot less "tank and spank" from the Black Forest, and a lot more "take it slow, pay attention, and hit the enemies from afar". Once we adjusted our playstyle, the swamp was still difficult, but much more manageable. Adding iron after that was just icing on the cake. Made the swamp very trivial.
