When you plant a carrot, you will get 3 seeds from it. It's a good idea (I think) to replant all your carrots at first to build up your seed stock. Once you have a decent supply, you can plant a bunch of seeds, harvest the carrots, and then replant 1/3 of the carrots to get your seeds for the next crop.

You can plant the carrot, for carrot seeds. Look at the variations in your farmer tool ui

In addition, 1 carrot seed planted gives you one carrot.
1 carrot planted will give you 3 seeds

Same goes for Turnips (found in the Swamp) and Onions (found in the cabins on the Mountain.

Same thing works with Turnips. I just got turnips so am full fledged farmer now.

You can plant your seeds and after growing you can pick the carrots. After that you can plant the carrots to get seeds of it. Each planted carrot gives you 3 seeds at the end.

How did I not know this? I knew this about barley and flax but not seeds ugh lol

How did I not know this? I knew this about barley and flax but not seeds ugh lol

Well, most of us are raised in an urban or possibly rural but not agrarian environment. How tubers "go to seed" is not a commonly known thing...

But the option to plan a carrot via pictoral/tool tip description in the hoe UI can be hard to miss.

This is also true, and makes sense with regard to the game. I often think in real live terms when working through game problems. Not always an effective train of thought, lol.

PS: The cultivator has that menu, rather than the hoe :)

Plant carrots and carrot seeds, side by side, at the same time.

You'll always have both, and never have to wait on a crop rotation.

Don't plant carrots, then seeds, then carrots... Plant them both at once.
