Questionable Greydwarf behaviour
First of all, english is not my native language so sorry for butchering grammar.
Lately i feel like my character has a GPS tracker hidden on him somewhere because Greydwarfs ALWAYS go in my direction, even though they haven't even seen me yet. This is of course understandable but only to a certain point. This is definitely not the case when greydwarf that hadn't seen me yet "coincidentally" has route across OCEAN just to encounter me on another continent.
Not enough? Well i got more, I experimented and made a base right next to starting spawn. Every 2 minutes i had to fend off 1-3 greylings that "coincidentally" had a route across my base, which meant i had to rebuild my bees all the time.
Is this intended mechanic of the game? How can i avoid this?
Thank you
Jiranik

Thank you all for all those tips! I've learned a lot from you guys! I'll be sure to apply some of these to hopefully finally get rid of Greydwarfs.

Yes, perception may be slightly different from actual behaviour. You should go and read some pages in the Valheim Fandom, if you don't care for too much spoilers (about metagame). Here, you can learn everything you want about how and when monsters spawn, whether they'll act as guards or will bee-line toward the player (it's called a raid), their chance to get levels, etc. Use the in-site research tool, because not all pages are listed in the initial menu. Thank you all for all those tips! I've learned a lot from you guys!

Don't think I saw it mentioned, but if you see enemies moving towards you, aim at them so you can see their name, and you'll be able to see if they can just 'hear' you (sound symbols on either side), or have actually spotted you (exclamation mark). If they just hear you but haven't spotted you yet, you can still get sneak attacks on them if you have a ranged attack.

Yeah i agree, the developpers placed a tracker on our character so any ennemy in the vicinity will slowlly move toward us. This is 100% accurate there is no doubt about it.
Is it a good or bad thing? that is the question...

If you want to check if something is hearing you; tap sneak after an action. It will show the squint eye or open eye if you are attracting attention. if something is spawning nearby find its origin and put a crafting table there, as Peath said.

The only thing about enemies investigating your presence that I dislike is that if you try to sneak away, they don't just stop at your previous location.. they follow you for a good bit until running back to where they were.
Seems to me that if you sneak away a good 30 yards or so, they should stop at your previous location (where you were making noise), hang around for a minute, then run off.
Unless you make more noise, that is.

Really depends on the game. To me its annoying when i'm trying to stealthly kill something just for a grayling/graydwarf spawn from where i came and bonk me in the head, making my target alert.
(Another game that forces combat even though it asks to do a stealth mission is XCOM 2, which is disappointing)

From what I remember, it was a ToolTip on the loading screen that enemies can smell you too. You have to pay attention to the wind direction, it does help alot when trying to sneak up on animals. Boars and Deer for sure can smell you and take off like a shot if you're upwind.

They do spawn a lot. I used the "player built structure" trick of stopping spawns around your base. Not sure why their being so aggressive with following, can't honestly say I've experienced that

I didn't know this thank you. This would also explain why hoards of Greydwarfs show up when fighting troll... they hear things too. if you are building, chopping, mining, taking things apart; they hear it.
Yes I agree! It's okay for them to know where am i since i'm making noise like ghosticles mentioned but fending them off every 2 minutes is just unreasonable spawn rates! Additionally, can i ask what is the trick you used? They do spawn a lot. I used the "player built structure" trick of stopping spawns around your base. Generally it's better to just "Rest" during the night period, especially in Dark Forrest.
And when you sneak and aren't seen then they will just walk like you weren't there unless you make noise.
Enemies also shouldn't be spawning near player buildings/structures, so placing crafting tables on the piece of land you secured will make them unable to spawn in your vicinity.
I usually also dig around my base to make a trench so they won't just run in and destroy the crafting tables where I plant trees and stuff.
