After literally hours of sailing around an (as it turned out) enormous landmass, I finally located the second boss. (I could've found him in 10 minutes had I sailed clockwise.......... it came down to a coin toss.) Almost got done in by a sea serpent on the way, and sailed close enough to a plains biome to see an infamous deathquito sizing me up. Died twice during the boss fight because unhappily it dragged past sunset and a whack of two star shamans and brutes decided to take part. Was able to use the portal twice to repair, before it got trampled by the boss.

When he finally went down it was glorious. No game has even given me such a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment as this has. Portal smashed. Boat trashed. Me a zillion miles from 'home'. Happily was able to find the requisite parts for my boat, portal and shack in the rubble and rebuild it all just as a g*dd*m troll showed up to eat the remainder of my fire arrows. This world hates us.

Went exploring a neighbouring swamp biome, just to get a taste. Got attacked by large globs of jumping green Jell-O........... wtf was that ?? Time for research.
