Crystal battle axe vs silver sword

As title , what its better for plains and fight yagluth
I find sword really expensive and battle axe a quite slow first hit but 2 hit combo has a sick range and a huge finisher , and nice parry bonus ( i have blocking at 55 , giving a bonus of 101 with parrying with this axe )
I know that sword have a swift combo and a very strong stab but i want to see opinions of both

I ask for those 2 weapons for pure slash and spirit damage againt that boss and get some use vs general monsters

If your solo, I recommend a tower shield and frostner.

If you have a group, then you can switch around, whoever has aggro uses a shield and frostner (or silver sword)

If you don't have aggro, you can run in with the battle-axe :D (it does good damage, but you really need that shield for this fight imo
Tower shields are noobest things for solo in the game , you get slower and loose parry ability to counter a hard enemy :T , them are better for party games where monsters got more stats and someone become the tank of the group , but i think rouns shields are high superior than tower , parry isnt rocket science or need good timing , just spam RMB when you see an incoming attack
and as i said in OP , 2 handed weapons got buffed in block armor , i can parry 101 damage with crystal axe at the moment

Normally I would agree with you, but we are talking about yagluths fight, he has a lot of multi hit attacks, and the straight block armor is better then a parry, which cannot stagger him, and uses more stamina.

During phases when you need to run (like when he summons meteors) you just tap r and run, you can then redraw by pressing r again when you need the shield

A man of culture. A superior specimen, no doubt. We recognize our own.

I've never used a sword but i have used Crystal battleaxe. It's quite clumsy with its swing and the movement penalty feels worse than its stats say, but when you hit something.......yeah, cannot argue that feeling.

You're sleeping on the Atgeir, aka the Spinning Stun Stick of Destiny. Stun trolls, stun Lox, stun everything.

Well your not going to be blocking Yagluth so I would take silver sword over crystal axe. If you miss a strike it's gonna be a lot spent stamina where as if you miss with the sword recovery is easier. You need speed for yag fight now since he can attack fast and his fire rolls you even with fire pot.

Other than that if you want a challenge go the crystal axe, or use a silver knife. I've done silver knife yag and plains so I assume crystal axe would be a similar affair in difficulty.

Silver Sword. I never leave home without it. Crystal Battleaxe is pretty awesome though.

So I have full tier 4 Fenris set and use the Crystal Battle Axe. The set bonus of the armor negates the movement speed of the Axe. Kinda puts you into beast mode provided you know how to time your blocks and parries.
Yeah i found that bonus pretty useful with heavy weapons

I played mostly with Frostner with my 1st plain through, second I went with sword. What a difference! The sword is so much faster and uses way less stamina. I felt it was far superior even with the chill effect from Frostner.
This was pre H&H so not sure if the stamina changes effected the sword.

I'm interested also. I haven't used either. I've always used Frostner (and arrows do squat to Yagluth).
