4th ship (trailer ship) and ships and the sea update
I love sailing in this game (I wish we had closer to sea of thieves but that's too much for this game I guess). I got so hyped when I found out there's a "trailer ship" ship type in game files. Its name comes obviously from the fact they used it a couple of times in a trailer. It does float if you spawn it but you can't sail on it which is sad because it looks cool.
The devs pushed the update to sometime after mistlands update...
Regarding sailing I kinda dislike no wind situations especially when they last for a long time. It's not the most fun to experience. Also perhaps make serpent trophy float (it sinks).
What would you guys love to see in the update? More ships and stuff? Maybe new mechanics or something?

Nice, flying meat on the seas! I don't think they will add diving. It would require a lot of rework plus i think it would break immersion.
As for bigger ships, if we get them we need to have some purpose to use them, since current longboat is big and fast enough to do all the work. Who knows, they may introduce more enemies or mechanics that will need a bigger ship.
Ah, they also said they were working on a flying mob for the "Ocean".

I absolutely adore the sailing in Valheim; the reliance on the wind, the lack of protection on a boat, and just the encouragement to take in your surroundings and (not so) subtle clues before sailing. Subconscious questions like: "how fast is the wind?", "what's the wave height further out?", "is it high tide or low tide?", "is it foggy?". Such basic, simple questions that can make a huge difference, whether you're trying to sail to new lands, peacefully sail, or sail along the coast.
But, I do think that the seas could be bigger. I know it's a controversial opinion, but I was somewhat disappointed at the small size of the current ocean. I'm thinking that boat trips should be enormous undertakings, taking several in-game days to even so much as reach new land, and requiring a lot of prep beforehand.
Another thing I think would be neat is ship customization. Customizing a ship for different purposes, like changing the sail rigging for various tasks, selecting different hulls, etc.
For example: a fore-and-aft rig for much greater speed while tacking or on a beam reach. Maybe a sleeker boat hull for minimum water drag, at the cost of flipping over easier in storms. Maybe a shorter, stubbier, canoe-like hull that turns extremely easily, making river navigation a breeze, but can tip over in a little too strong of a breeze if the sail is fully opened; might want to reef the sail if it's starting to get a little wobbly!

The potential of sailing and ships is so unrealised. I mean ou can't even do basic customizations on the ships come on. Them updates gotta speed up.

Would love a bigger ship, with living quarters. A more self sustaining vessel. Give me more to do in the ocean. How about... bestial mermaids? (and let me tame them) xD
Triton suit? let me swim without restriction, possibly dive, I love corals. underwater cave/dungeon with air pockets? A form of interaction with corals (not mining), maybe make so corals spawn a lot of fishes. Or something else.

Well that's I am aftaid is beyond the scope of the game as it seems to me. Sea of thieves those things though. Would love a bigger ship, with living quarters. A more self sustaining vessel. Give me more to do in the ocean. How about... bestial mermaids? (and let me tame them) xD

What I would love to see is something between what we have and of sea of thieves. Not too much like SOT (out of scope) but definitely more than we have now.
Customizations would be great! Most wildest idea is a small ballista on a ship to fight serpents! The potential of sailing and ships is so unrealised. I mean ou can't even do basic customizations on the ships come on. Them updates gotta speed up.
Well just if at least some skins or whatever customization of ships outlook would be great for starters. We lack indeed any real basic things in sailing custonization. It's indeed early access still so we can at least hope that devs would see it worthy enough to develop further.
I hope devs would not takenback ore portalling as any means of fast travel kills any real incentive to use any other slower method of travel. The game also just gets "finished" out of things to do faster with fast travel for obvious reasons. I think game would be better off without portals tbh. They are great on paper but in practice they force the game to go on way too fast speed whilw still having not so much content tbh to go on with.

When is there no wind? I've never seen this situation. It's just not always blowing the direction you would like.
Ironically, I have only run into situations where the wind is blowing in the EXACT head-on direction. Meaning that I just gave up exploring the areas of the map I actually wanted to and head into the unknown that I didn't want to. Not complaining about that though since it's there to create decision making and doesn't really hurt you that much that often.
Although, I DO want to complain about how the game always seems to blow in my headwind direction every single time the wind direction changes. THAT results in me making giant snaking or circular paths through the ocean.

There are means in the game that can be used to alleviate those two issues: The power from Forsaken and the harpoon.

I love the boats too. But I think serpent trophies should stay hard to get.
As for what I want? Fuling pirates!

I'd like to see the ocean become another official biome, with progression elements built in for diving and a real boss. Sort of like how you need to get furs for the mountains. This way it makes it easier to risk battles on the ocean eventually if you can dive down and re-collect your wrecked ships and stuff. Real shipwrecks too, not just having your boat turn into a pile of mats but a sunken thing you have to harvest again and creatures and barnacles and stuff moving into it over time if you don't.
Typhoons, whirlpools, more sea hazards and monsters, ship to ship combat, I just really like the adventure feel of sailing and few other games do it at all much less well.

Great ideas! Though I think diving is out of scope of the game. It also would reduce performance negatively very drastically because you would need to render additional stuff underwater.
I just hope they didn't give up on sailing and seas as they seem to be pushing new ground biomes (mistlands and ashlands and perhaps after them deep north etc) more than ever. It's all understandable as they want to push out "real big content" out faster than they would otherwise have done because of big player numbers and a need to satiate them and not lose relevance too fast.

I haven't seen this fourth ship but I'd absolutely love to see a wider variety of them. A larger vessel would be awesome, preferably with a small section dedicated to resting or sleep. A cooking station, even. I love to sail too, and agree about the serpent trophy. I think it makes sense for the scales to sink, though.

I've seen plenty of times where the wind was so weak, you made better time rowing. Just like the real world.Regarding sailing I kinda dislike no wind situations especially when they last for a long time. It's not the most fun to experience.
