FPS Drops on Linux

Looks like the game has some issues, at least on my laptop (GTX 1650, Ryzen 5 3550H)

I tried to monitor it in the last days, and before beginning, I must say that Process priority was on high, governor is on max performance, and only the GPU is highly used, RAM and CPU are alright.

I also play the game on OpenGL, but there is no difference from Vulkan.
I also tried Proton (Valve's and GE)

So, no matter the resolution, lodbias, graphics settings (they are all on low, with everything turned off, even VSync) I get FPS drops, down to 1 FPS very often making the game unplayable.

Temperatures are alright, and the game use up to 800MB/4 GB GPU memory, the thing is that usage is pretty high for some reason. RAM Usage and CPU Usage are alright.

FPS Drops occur almost everytime, doesn't matter if it loads a new area, or going back home.

I also have the OpenGL settings on `nvidia-settings` on high performance and power mizer as well.

I'm using Arch with KDE.

It can't be my laptop beacuse I also installed the game on Windows, and turned out that it runs better, so it's an optimization issue that I'm willing to help the devs fixing it so us, the Linux users can enjoy the game with no problems.

Thank you!

I get periodic fps drops system wide on the Linux vulkan build too. Not in the game but for the rest of my desktop. The game runs fine for a while, even streaming it nicely with OBS... Then boom obs is 10fps along with the rest of the desktop. The only thing still running ok is the game.

I don't get this with any other game and I'm above the specs needed. What in the world is going on. Making it very frustrating to stream.

Odd, I have noticed the framerate can be kinda jittery sometimes but overall its very good on my system. Using native linux build with Vulkan on my arch system with no DE. Honestly I use to use KDE myself and noticed I had a lot more issues back then before I switched to openbox but who knows. you got all your drivers updated?

I'm not seeing any major drops in frames on vulkan. I do get some drops every now and then, but most of the lag is the auto-save or odd spike. World save is usually 1-2 seconds. Using full disk luks and ecryptfs so would likely be faster for most.

I have about 128 hours total, made several larger bases and have about 30 portals. That said, some of the larger bases dip into 70-90 but I mostly get 100-120FPS with vsync monitor at 120HZ.

Specs:
Mint 20.1
AMD 3900X @ 4.2GHZ
32GB 3600MHZ
nVidia RTX 2070 (460.32.03)
1920x1080 Everything on HIGH, vsync on and no DOF/Motion blur or CA
Corsair M600 PCIe 4.0 5GB/s
Cinnamon 4.8.6

Also note, that the unity fix for multithreaded jobs helps a bit. (not much in my case)
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1 gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1

Add that to top of boot.config in your valhiem_data folder.

EDIT: Also, you could try turning down draw distance, that will likely help a bit.

Yea I do got them updated, I've been thinking to switch to a tiling WM too (bspwm) but I don't think I'll do so well in it, i'll probably do a VM and try it.

Another crazy thing tho, my laptop temperatures are going pretty high on Vulkan, compared to OpenGL, and yea I know about the FPS drops that are kinda common, I noticed on Windows, and also on a friend's same laptop as mine which he also use Windows. But the FPS drops on my end are very annoying, I mean I get my FPS down to 1 or 2, very very often, I can't even cut trees in peace or explore beacuse it happens to get some FPS drops like that.

My monitor is 75Hz, even in settings it sees as 75Hz, but it doesn't go over 60FPS anyways.
Draw distance is turned down, and I think is the same as `lodbias 1` and it doesn't improve anything at all, i'll see the multithread thing later maybe it'll help, thanks

Тоже самое - фпс передически (раз в 10-15 минут) падает практически до 0, пару минут так происходит, а потом снова востанавливается.

Antix Linux (Debian 10)
LXDE
Intel i5 1035G1
8 GB

Вулкан установлен, меса установлена, всё обновлено до последней версии.
