Scariest Item in the Plains
Deathsquitos, Fuling mobs, Shamans, Beserkers, Growths and Lox? How about sandbars? I was on a leisurely cruise in my longship when I spotted what could be Yagluth's distinctive columns on an adjoining Plains island. I turned to investigate since I always seem to have poor luck finding his vegvisir stones. I had ideal sailing conditions - no fog, no storm and wind from an oblique angle. As I got closer a Fuling village rendered in complete with 3 Beserkers and several Shamans, including one in the water. I turned hard to starboard and didn't see the sandbar until I was sitting high and dry. Normally I just jump out and hoe the thing down but the Shaman decided to fireball my ship. A ship with a hold containing my travel portal and about 100 black metal I had managed to accumulate on the trip. Well, the ship was now in pieces and fortunately in my inventory and I managed to swim to a near shore. I guess the gods took additional pity on my stupidity since only the shaman had noticed me and I managed to pick him off with my Draugr Fang. Brought the ship back in and carefully went just off the sandbar and also fortunately had enough stamina potions to swim over and get the pieces blasted out of the cargo hold. Faceplant of the day? When traveling around the Plains, always look forward, backward, left, right and down.

Many thanks @Fzanco but it was the will of the gods, not player skill that allowed him to survive the day - wyrd.

I remember a time I was sailing at night around the plains. I think I was in mountain-level gear, and probably 25 health, since I'd sailed all day and into the night. I ended up going down a dead end channel, tried turning around and got beached on a sandbar.
I almost immediately got noticed by a group of 4 fulings, who promptly broke up their pow-wow to come give me a hand... or a club... or a spear. I didn't stick around to see.
So, now I'm running around the plains at night, underdressed and unfed, with 4 fuling at my back and who knows what in front. I see a mountain ahead, and head for that, thinking even a mountain at night would be better that where I was.
I don't remember how that worked out. Maybe I've mentally blocked it, but I would not recommend it.

This is sure true. One of the greatest things about Valheim is dealing with unforeseen disasters and getting your boat wrecked by a sandbar and trying to raise the ground up to get your nails and hides back from the bottom is surely stressful.
