The main reason for this is online trolls who come and wreck everything. Also this game is made to be played with friends. People playing at a different pace does not work well in this game.

hows the online broken works fine for me and my friends this game is awesome not sure what issues you are having.

you have to make your own server nobody is just gonna let random people join and ruin their bases
