SUB 10 FPS with a 1080ti
So I have my own server. My fps had been fine until my base got to big I guess and now I get less than 10fps at my base. I have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 1080ti and 7700k intel.....What can I do to fix this fps problem. It seems to be fine once I leave my base...I love this game but I cant play it if I am lagging all over the place.

I have RTX 2060 too and I play on ultra with group of 3-4 ppl, no troubles so far. Try using Vulkan, it perform better. But it's just how I feel towards it, I did no actual benchmarks.

Might be another issue aside from the GPU, what is your RAM situation? Bottle necking your pc is likley the culprit, first make sure you have no hardware issues.

GPU isn't enough information.
CPU:
GPU:
RAM (type/gigs):

If you are finding it hard to locate this information, there is a free utility tool called Speccy i recommend.
Please remember in future for all games when posting about performance issues that this basic information is required for people to even have a means to help.
Judging that you don't have a mouse next to your name, you've refunded it.... or sailed the high seas. Really hope it was the former given how cheap this game is.

Depend what you do in the game. We had a decently sized village (Pub, forge, marina and 4 houses) and my 2080 drops to 15-20 FPS when walking about.

.
Actually it is for ballpark non-driver specific issues. Nobody is installing a 3090 with a i4 2400 and 8 gigs of ram for example. It's fair to assume at least average tier hardware for the GPU in question.

Except that it caused a whole bunch of extra unnecessary posts speculating about bottlenecks. So i respectfully disagree.
If people want an expedient solution to their issue, more information > less.

Try completely removing your drivers with something like DDU, then reinstalling. Could be a bad driver setting or file.

A really strong video card wont help you here.
The game is very CPU intensive.
Hopefully they they can squeeze more performance out of Unity down the road but just the nature of the game itself having a dynamic environment with the sheer amount of individual things happening will eat up your CPU cores.
A lot of the GPU driven stuff wont even make your card "sweat" probably at all.
With Valheim popularity and whatnot, its possible that Unity Technologies will actually go out of their way to try and help them optimize it more. Valheim success using Unity reflects on them too, at least a little.

Well, some people nowadays have different definitions on what is "good or poor" performance.
They expect 144+ fps all the time, out of every game because they bought a really nice video card. When in reality most games are designed for 60 fps in mind.
The whole exception of 144 fps combined with 144hz+ monitors is relativity new for gaming and has been taken for granted and unrealistically expected out of every scenario, or the game is "poorly optimized". People want like "workstation level performance" out of their consumer PC.

This is a problem.
I suspect that they cannot solve it.
I really doubt they can figure it out.
Correct me if I am wrong. The game invites you to build a good base and have a lot of animals, but then it doesn't work properly when you do.
7 Days to Die has the same problem but it really allows you to build and modify the terrain much more. I would say: 1000% more.
And also (in 7dtd) all the terrain is all absolutely modifiable, much more than in Valheim because you can have underground bases. In 7DTD you need to build a city with skyscrapers and massive terrain modifications to feel a bit laggy. In Valheim you build 3 houses, have pigs and you can't play ...

I am able to play several survival games with no issues: Subnautica, Conan, 7 Days to Die, Raft.
Valheim is very laggy with a few buildings, sadly

Yeah, that's really pushing it with your specs, especially with 50+ animals and NPCs in addition. If you have a lot of torches/fires they become really demanding as well as they create constantly changing light and smoke particle effects.
The reality is all building games run into this at a certain point as each and every item loading into active cells has to be tracked dynamically all at once. In your case it's trying to do so with over 15k separate objects.
At some point there will be better optimization but that usually comes closer to launch, not 2+ years out because everytime major components are added or systems are done, a ton of previous optimization is wiped out. Even at best there will still be limits regardless of optimization and hardware.
I have a rtx 3080 and I7-10700kf so I've pushed up to 20k active Instances so far (plus a HD texture mod) without issue but I'll still hit a point where it'll impact performance.
If your world is older than when they did the terrain optimization you can try running the command to run it in your base and it may bring down the instances significantly and your fps up. (enable console via "-console" as a launch argument. Once in game use the console command "opt terrain" to optimize local terrain)
You can also try reducing dynamic light/smoke sources and npcs and/or running a cleanup command. Large fields of crops can have a significant impact as well.
Either way you'll not want to build further close by, but far enough away that the bases aren't loaded at the same time, and keep track of active instances to stay under whatever effects your frame rate significantly.

Something is definitely wrong with this patch, maybe it's not happening to you but i should not have that big of a frame drop in the same spot.

I think it might have to do with the update to the terrain system they did; they mentioned that areas u already built (like ur old base) will be stuck on the old system and need to be manually updated with a dev command, and that the old system can be significantly slower now. I'll link the article so u can try the command near ur base and see if it helps!
I believe the command is called 'optterrain' but you need to have commands enabled for valheim, and most importantly make SURE you backup your world and character files first using gamesave manager or by backing the files up manually. Some people reported that it was damaging some of their buildings back then, so in case something goes wrong when you try to update to the new terrain system, you'll have a backup of your world to restore from.
Here's the article, I recommend giving it a small readthrough before you do it so you know what to do and what to be careful with.

You can also try this fix, as it is simpler and won't mess anything else up before you mess with the terrain system; it's boosted many players FPS by around 30 on average for very minor tweaks
"- Turn off v-sync, it is bugged and causes problems
- Steam launch options for Valheim to force fullscreen nets some good FPS returns;
''-window-mode exclusive -screen-fullscreen''
-Find your Valheim directory, find Valheim_Data, then open the 'boot' file with notepad. copy and paste these lines of code to the very first line of this file;
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1"

I don't know the cause of your FPS drop. I've recently made a new world with a small hut and done some minor modifications of the ground. I get 95 fps at that area.
7700K, 32gb ram, 1080Ti.
All my experiences with large scale buildings and terrain modifications has been terrible with sub 30 fps.

I think the latest update may be the issue. I too have a 1080Ti, and all was working fine the night before I installed the update. Then after the update I noticed a ton of fps drops all over the place. I may have dug out one copper deposit in the meantime, but if that's all it takes to tank fps like it has, then I think the game is broken, lol. If not, then it was the update.

i just logged in to see if my fps was dropped and it was. A spot i usually test from is anywhere from 74-94fps, when i just tested, i was getting 41-45fps lol. wtf?
