ARRGRGGGGLLLLLL Updates

Man I'm tired of these nonsens mod breaking updates. I can't even force steam to not update.

Is there ANY WAY to just stay on one version until the next major update?

Otherwise I'm done with it. It just to much hazzle to keep updating for nothing.

You don't use mods. We get it.
The devs have no obligation to support mods. Of course they don't.
But there is literally no reason they can't keep a few more extra patch versions available in the Beta section instead of just Last patch and current. It would help a lot of folks out (not just the mod-using community) and would be easy for them to do. It is so silly that some people don't understand this.

The problem with this is that having more active versions = more reports of bugs that were already fixed by people using old copies and more frustration for any support provided when dealing with it all. They already get pseudobug reports from things caused by mods. There have to be some lines drawn in order to actually do any meaningful development work.

I understand what you are saying, but:
"obligation to support mods" == keeping multiple versions around to an extent. That is, demanding the old versions to be left available is an obligation.

I prefer to live and let live, but the modding of this game has reached a level that it appears to be a detriment to the game development. Not just the fake bug reports from mod problems, but every issue players dislike is modded away instead of being heavily reported, making it hard for them to prioritize what to give us. I get that some stuff is out of that bubble (like metal portaling, they said no, mods said yes, and its resolved) but a lot of things are not in the realm of declared "we won't do that" and are no longer being pushed on because some mod offered it (easier to just get it now and not ask for it officially).

I personally don't use mods and am enjoying a play through after not playing for two years. I can certainly see the appeal for mods, as I think there are many opportunities for little quality of life improvements that I suspect will make their way into the game eventually.

Are the updates breaking ALL the mods or just a specific few?

This is definitely a thing, but I see it as self-inflicted. The devs said "that's never going to happen", and the community responded with "We'll just mod it, then"... the devs flat out said "this won't be fixed" about something a large number of people felt very strongly about, so now the community doesn't trust them to actually do anything right, and looks to third-party tools to make the game "work properly".

People are actually "completing the game for the developers" with mods, at this point, and claiming the slow pace of development means Valheim might as well already be abandonware.

The most recent updates broke BepInEx itself, which effectively means "all mods". It has been fixed with an unofficial update (not the original mod author), but BepInEx itself is (as I understand it) still broken.

they don't support mods = they don't do things to support mods, and that includes keeping previous versions. that is not where their effort and time and money is going. they have been very clear about that.

they don't support modding the game, guys. this is what that means. it's not like you were misled.

All my mods are working after I updated to the latest BepInEx 5.4.21. The mods I can confirm are working; farm grid, mass farming, quick stack, craft from containers, and equip wheel are all working flawlessly with latest Valheim patch on singleplayer client mode. Just download the latest BepInEx and overwrite, I did not have to update any mods but I'd double check if you use a mod I didn't list.

don't use thunderstore either as mods can update.

Cloud save is disabled anyway since I manage my saves manually.

You mean I can just copy the game folder and it will run from a different location. Sounds to easy. Will try. Thank you.

100% Works.

if you go into your steam library, right click on valheim, click properties, then click betas, then click on previous version
