I think they have made it darker. I'm a regular player but I have noticed in some situations it's very dark when night hits and I don't remember it being quite so dark to begin with. In any case, keep a torch in your inventory or grab one of the headlamps from the trader when you find him. I've found that really helps a lot. :)

I think it has always been darker right after night falls and right before the dawn. Maybe because the moon is low in the sky at those times? In my experience, those two brief periods are not representative of the rest of the night.

Could be a reason or maybe when clouds blocking moonlight. I'm curious now, will check out later when I'm playing.

First don't be active at night. The night has several penalties and there are beds to skip the night. It seems to be made to be avoided at night unless there is a specific reason.

However, this is a single game, so if you want to use a little cheat method and use an nvidia graphics card, please do a Google search for 'nvidia filter'. It provides a brightness control function that can be turned on and off with one hotkey. It's probably just what you want.

Everyone jumping in to say "it's supposed to be dark" didn't bother to read OP's question. He hasn't played for a few months, and it's darker than he remembers. He was asking if something had changed, not if "it's supposed to be dark."

As to OP's question, I don't believe they have changed the brightness settings in the past few months, no.

No, it's not darker than it used to be. So don't worry, you're just going blind.

If the moon isnt out I find its dark dark but otherwise havent noticed a difference

Or you could just adjust the gamma on your monitor.

Yep, it's dark. As it should be. I rarely venture out at night, and if I do, I have my handydandy dvergr circle on me.

I love it when the night in games are really dark. Too many games that can't present the darkness of nights properly, I think Valheim does. Because we have always full Moon, will still have some light at night at least, so it's not completely dark.
If I want to venture out at night, I have to make my room really dark to see anything :D

I think it's definitely darker than it used to be.
