Returning player: Why was raise ground nerfed so horribly?

Rock structures already take up an ungodly amount of time to create, now we need to use 90% of our rocks just for landscaping and terraforming. Why was it nerfed so badly?

Well if you're trying to literally raise all the ground at once, yes, it's always costed a lot. Sounds like you like big projects that cost way too much resources.

Raise ground is now paired well with flatten ground since it's not raising just one "square" of land anymore.

If I remember right, this change was several months ago because people were using a glitch that let them position the cursor just right to instantly raise the ground to that level, allowing them to quickly and easily create massive walls and hills for very little cost. They actually LOWERED the stone cost (I think from 5 to 2?) But patched out the glitch. And yes, this was very controversial at the time.

Let us slave the monsters to work at the quarrys xD

Is level terrain more costly on high builds now?

This was changed a long while ago because people like me were able to raise the ground to it's max height and then basically pick forward to extend it several times saving huge amounts of stone. This was never intended I don't think. You can still extend to save some rock buy raising ground from the side about 3/4 the way up.. Which is still reasonable. I have but stone wall around my base and tend to save all my stone from mining and other source now due to knowing how much stone is needed for stone blocks. I have two bases that have the equivalent of 90 2m Supports of wall that are 3m high. and didn't use an unreasonable amount of stone.

I'm in the process of building a single earthwork that will use about 120m of Stone earthwork minimum... and some landscaping inside. I haven't started yet but I would be surprised it too more than 1200-1500 stone which I believe I have laying around. It's already used 2000 plus wood. And will need another 1000 yet before I'm done.

So comparatively speaking the Earth works seems to be on par.

It was a bug to raise all at once.
that said, the biggest project I have is just my farm, which is high enough to keep furlings at bay, about 5 clicks x enough space to grow 50 barley.
my home is lofted, but only in a giant O shape: the hollowed out center is a usable basement.

To get rocks for large projects, like lofting a 3-4 story 15x15 or so castle, find some plains with those big rock columns. Make a portal, bust the base, pick up the rocks, go make some stuff, repeat. There is no shortage of those columns.

What he said! I love it when you make the last hit that brings the whole column down and the game freezes for a second while, (I assume) it calculates the animation for all those rocks, then BOOM!

Why wasn't the glitch kept as a feature? I just don't understand why they want us to farm so many rocks.

I have a island i'm trying to raise to build a castle on and i've gone through tens of thousands already. And i STILL haven't even started the castle yet.

can they just put it back to the way it was? it was so much easier to make the ground raise the way you wanted it to before, you could easily make a long straight line that was the same height all the way along, now its just a nightmare trying to get my dirt walls to look nice

if they thought people were doing it as a 'cheat' to use less stone then i would rather they just increased the cost and left it as it was

So you're blaming the game for your overly ambitious project? Even if raise ground costed 1 Stone I bet people would still complain there isn't enough Stone in the world to raise your ground to a level that you deem acceptable.

Only the dev team can really give you that and they probably won't :)
I guess one thing to say is that terrain raising is highly exploitable. Lofted builds are inaccessible to the bad guys... all you get is an occasional lobbed rock or drake spew hit and little to no damage per raid. You can also use it to make the walls of your home, which is cheaper than using rock blocks (those cost about 6 rocks for the same as 2 clicks raising terrain). On top of *that*, raised home walls also function as ground points to take your build higher than usual.

My home does exactly that... the entire lower 'floor' is only terrain with a rock floor tile 'roof'..
I don't think they intended for this kind of power (enemy immunity and extra high builds) to be trivial to accomplish.

because i had no issues completing bigger projects before the nerf? wdym overly ambitions? it's a small 40x40 island
