Change Default File Save Location

So, I have an external hard drive that's crapping out, and I want to change the default save location for Valheim ONLY (because it's the only thing I'm playing ATM), but I have no idea of a simple way to do that. What's happening now is that the external HD blips randomly and kicks me out of the game, losing all the progress I made since the last autosave.

Any tips on how to do that?

this requires moving (I recommend this) the old folder to the new location with all your files and putting the link where the old one was. Back it all up before you try anything, but a simple test would be to make a new text file in like notepad and save it to the valheim folder and watch it appear in the other place instead.

if the symbolic link on the dying drive also craps out, its not going to work. But those are like 50 byte files, and usually don't fail assuming the drive is going to keep working well enough to do anything at all with. Do a scandisk and lock/mark the bad sectors so it stops trying to use them every so often helps reliability too, as does keeping the drive at least 10% or so free space.

this is way too many words for it, but its what came up and I don't want to write it all out if you don't need me to.

if you do get stuck, I can figure it out for you tonight or tomorrow.
That’s great. Thanks!

Yeah, I’m planning on doing that, but there’s a reason I’m only focused on the Valheim save which is that I work offshore and I’ll be out here for a few more weeks. That means that getting my hands on another drive is like trying to buy one from the moon. When I get on the beach I’ll get another external drive and probably discontinue using this one.

Thanks for the filepath!

if you have critical files, usb stick them or compress and email (terrible way) or send to some cloud (even steam cloud can hold personal files I believe, if you can figure out how, its weird) or MS onedrive etc. Just the key stuff, not your whole drive of course.
critical files meaning your valheim folder, of course.
