Bridges
Has anyone tried making a bridge across a pond or river yet? Having issues with that,

I did. Bridges take constant maintenance beacuse the wood pillars you need to support your floors degrade in like 6 days if they stand mostly under water. Also you have do build a roofed Bridge if you don't want the floors degrading too. Still built some because they look cool but is there a LOT of ongoing work? yes.

EDIT: Also, the pieces under water will not degrade past 1, so as long as no outside forces damage them there's not really a reason to fret too much over it. Hoping they do something to fix this though, it's quite annoying to have single pole platform on the sides of my bridge just so I can reach the support poles to repair them.

Yes, Ive made a few but small ones. The weather degrades wood and I've not been able to use stone yet. They problem is support, I use the giant X beams...

I actually came here to ask you guys just that! Specifically, how are you building your bridges, and how far above/below water level are you making them?
I'm currently building about a half a foot above the water line off of a log (I was learning the building system and it just happened to work out that way haha), and I've found I can reinforce and extend a bridge VIA PLANKS underneath the wood flooring, though this only works to a certain degree. Also note that my planks are only reinforcing the flooring and aren't actually touching earth, sadly I'm past the point of no return where I cant continue the plank direction towards the earth cause theres no line of sight.
My system doesn't seem to degrade, at least from constant ocean damage, but it does seem to be limited in how far you can extend it.

Rain damage degrades wood structures without roofs but does not destroy them. So you don't actually ever need to repair it and its unlikely going to be attacked....

I first raised ground with hoe and built the bridge with heavy foundations so they are at least light green, I don't trust orange even though it usually doesn't break. After building I used pickaxe to make the ground go as far down as I could before my character started swimming. After that the bridge just drops around 50% hp like everything made of wood without roof and that is pretty much it no need for maintenance. If you see enemies hitting the bridge that is when you need to repair them. Good luck it is pretty fun and challenging to build bridges.

Tad late to the party but I use core wood structures for the pillars below. They are a lot more sturdy and stable. According to ♥♥♥♥ they do not degrade past 50%. Glad to have learned that. Makes sense given the abandoned wood structures in the Meadows never go away from weather. The following screenshot shows what I mean regarding the bridge I built:

Regardless, a good roof over the stairs and bridge itself just high enough to drag a cart by is good for me. Gotta do fetch quests with Copper across a river given the only good source of them is past a river and I need me a lot. Gotta flatten the edges of the other side first given its a mountainside to go past. Hope this image helps

This is 4m wide, very long. Iron beams covered with wood beams, not core wood.
