Your portal room/house ?

does anyone have any recommendation or screens of your places storing portals ?

im trying to find a way to close them up in order just enough to emit less glow and not having multiple portals reacting as soon as I get close to another

I have two portals in my base.

The first one is unnamed. It's the temporary/emergency portal.
The second one I name according to the place I want to go. The connecting portals are noted by their names on the map (you can also put signs on the wall with all the names.)

Both portals are in a small annex (4x2 or 4x3, something like that) to my storage building.

If you want to have a portal hub at your base, but not its effect the moment you pass a portal, you can of course simply carry one of the items that stop teleporting.
Yes, I'm aware it does take up an item slot, but since you're at your base, you don't need to have a full inventory anyway.......

These are two of my favorite portal hubs. They will light up only when you step in front of them. And they are both separated from my base. So i need only one portal in the base that will teleport me to the hub where i can choose where to go next.
It is a good idea to make portal hub on a small island far away from the mainland and make it almost raid proof. If there is not enough land around it, enemies will not be able to spawn. Well, some of them like bats and drakes will, but trolls and other big bad guys will not :)
Those are seriously impressive!

Thank you. The one with a tree inside was my first portal hub and it took me several days to build it. The other one was pretty simple. The ashlands environment makes it look way better than it actually looks :) Plus, ashlands have no rain so your wooden structures will not take any damage.

Also, I'd like to suggest to decorate them with trophies and other items (like stack of gold for trader, draugr trophy for swamp portal, wolf/drake trophy for mountain portal etc) instead of marking them with signs. This way you can easier spot the one you want to find.

i left thumbs ups since theyre cool in a fantasy way but im trying to pull off the opposite of this by making the portals less openly obvious

Maybe you can try hiding it behind the doors. So, like the double walls 2 meters apart. Put portals inside and doors in front of each portal. You wont be able to trigger it until you open the door and step closer.

thats a good idea
ill try to improvise with walls to cover the frames of the portals and those cloth fabric things as an improvised door since an actual door would collide unnaturally against the portal frames

Vaz, this might be a lil off, but it is another take on what you want to achieve.

I am a minimalist, so I greatly limit how many portals I have. Currently, four, and I could do with three.

As you play, the place you used to visit the most (say, a large plains area with lots of cloudberries) will likely become much less frequented. I would mark this plains portal on the map, with its literal name, and I would rename the connecting one, in my base, to something new. I would then go to a new area, set up a portal there, and start using the one that once led to the cloudberries. Whenever I need more berries, I just rename the portal back to what it was, hop through it to collect them berries, hop back and rename it. If I forget what the name was, I check the map.

The less portals you have, the less space they take up and the easier it is to avoid the annoying walk-by glow. :-)

Might not work well enough for a heavy portal user, but works wonders for me.

i already have like 5 portals at most if we dont cont the ones theyre linked to but the whole purpose of building a portal house with portals placed in the basement ive dug through the ground was mainly to remove all the annoying unnatural glow effects around my main base ill build afterwards since the current base ive had since i started playing starts triggering portals as soon as i get just mildly close to one and i never liked unnatural looking stuff

we're pretty much aiming for the same end result but i pretty much just place down portals where ive got a more or less particular different purpose from jumping in between one zone to another just like youre describing with cloudberries and etc

Make a separate building that will have only portals. Don't make them in your main building because you will trigger them every time you walk next to them.
Go to Screenshots section and search for "portal hub". There are a lot of cool builds so maybe you will find something you like.

You could just put a sign on each saying the location it needs to go to then reset the portal to a random string of letters. I think if you set them each blank then they connect to eachother, so use random stuff so they dont connect. Or. Use one portal at your hub and use the portal map markers on the world screen to see where each one is then set your home portal to go where you want it to every time you use it.

didnt know we had a search feature on the screenshot subcategory, will check it out

but yes, i started building a stone building with a large basement to seal off as much lighting effects as possible for the sole purpose of dumping material and being used as a portal hub

im not entirely sure what youre addressing here, im just trying to make sure that theres less portal trigger and less glow spewing it around my portal place

it already feels unrealistic enough with so many effects so i thought dividing them with walls might do the trick, hopefully in a way that dont look too ugly

What I'm saying is turn the portals off so they dont got the lighting when not in use.
