I was hunted by wolves today while sailing home with a boat load of ore, just like Werric, the original poster.

Also like Werric, I blithely sailed on without pausing to see if wolves did spawn at sea, if I could kill them in the water, and if so, wether or not their drops floated.

I did, however, frequently check the map to see if the red event/raid circle was still there after I departed. It was for about three minutes, then it disappeared.

I know that if one gets "A foul odor from the swamp..." on land, the raid/event timer will be suspended if one leaves the red circle and will not restart until one reenters the red circle.

So now the burning question is: Did the disappearance of the red circle after I left it occur because the raid/event happened at sea or does the "You are being hunted..." event not get suspended when one leaves its red circle?

So the wolf pack decided all the critters of the plains were better targets, and lol it was fun watching them get massacred. Fulings, deathsquitos, and this one lox... who apparently survived the entire attack with still about half his health bar left....

On a long boat full with iron ore I wasn't sticking around to see if they would spawn in the boat or just in the water. I really wasn't into a corpse run out to the middle of the ocean if they got in the boat and things went wrong.

What I can say is while in the red circle I didn't see any wolves. Maybe they were running around on the ocean floor.

Ah but now my brain has kicked into gear. The "You are being hunted" spawns on the player and you don't need to be at or close to a "base". Thanks your comment just made sense of why that specific event triggered while I was sailing.

That secondary attack just sweeps them all away while giving me time to find a place to get my back up against a wall. A wall is not really necessary, I just prefer all the attacks come from a semi-circle instead of getting a complete flanking.

I just got the sulfur raid at my plains base and didn't even see one of them. Why? because my base is mostly surrounded by water.

I should clarify. When I said I hadn't seen it before I meant having an event trigger while I was in my longboat in the ocean. I didn't even think that events could trigger around a longboat out in the ocean.

I use the iron sledge, bone mass buff and health potions for when the wolves decide to hunt me. AoE damage, a knock-back and a brief stun works wonders just don't use it close to any buildings etc that you want to keep.

Most events only trigger when you're in range of specific items that the game registers as 'being in a base'. Hunted isn't one of those, all it requires is Bonemass being defeated.

Not gonna lie, as much as I like the Wolf-tier foods, the Hunted event is pretty annoying.

First (and so far only) time it happened to me was after making a short trip in to the Mountains for some Freeze Glands after defeating Moder. I figured I'd hide on a rock to see what's up, then hop down to kill some of them.

Turns out, there were far more Wolves than I anticipated, and I ended up having to chug a health pot.

I would very much consider using the Iron+ Atgeir for this event to simply AoE them down in waves, rather than one at a time. Although, out in the open in the Plains.. I can see it being an issue there. Best I can say to do is keep the Bonemass power available at all times while exploring.

Some events are more annoying than even remotely fun..

If you are caught out in the open on the plains them you will be in serious trouble with this event, but if you are safe them you get about 25 wolf meat / 20+ skins / 12 teeth and 6 heads, a fine haul of items.
