1. place ship on coast to bring back all iron
2. build a cart and mats for portal
3. go from crypt to crytp with the cart and place portal outside
4. port back for repair sell stuff
5. repeat step 3 until swamp is farmed empty and carry the cart with iron to the ship
6. enjoy your 1k iron

Fun story I couldn’t find enough metal so I randomly digged for silver in mountains (iron pickaxe mind you) and got from bronze to silver skipped metal until plains.

I just started a new game and haven't tried this after the update, but you can still build a base in the swamp trees, right? I had one base at least 30 feet up in the air, nothing was able to touch me besides the ghost/wraith. I was just trying to get the green goo from the swamp trees one day and just kept on building higher and higher. I don't think the swamp is a practical base location but I did use it. I could repair my troll armor there and build arrows if I needed to. Just thought I would mention it as an option.

Yep nothing changed you can build treehouse in swamp and castles on top of those huge stones in plains.

Get anti-poison potions and i highly recommend a Stagbreaker for the crypts.

Bring materials for two portals. Land your Karve in a forest or meadow biome close to the swamp, not in the swamp. If you park it at the shore of the swamp the leeches and other mobs will swim out and destroy it. Set up a portal at your boat immediately.

Bring enough wood for a bench and stairs, and when you find a crypt set up a portal on top of it. Now you can quickly re supply and bring everything but ore directly back to your base. You are going to be collecting a lot more materials than you can carry, this will save you a lot of slogging back and forth. You can build a fire inside the crypt to dry off and regain your rested buff. Mark all your crypts as you find them, you are going to need lots of iron.

The flying drakes/wyrms ended up being more of a threat to me when I did this than the wolves. Not sure if you plan on using the resistance mead to deal with the cold, but they hit very hard if you don't. My biggest issue was them sneaking up on me while mining and sniping before I could figure out where they were.

Right, get into a crypt ASAP and run back to your boat with the scrap iron. Don't spend any time running around the surface if you can help it.

Bring plenty of arrows to shoot enemies inside the crypts—don't totally destroy the scrap piles when digging into new room, enemies can't path past scrap pile left on the ground so you can shoot them with impunity.

The draugr are going to smash you in troll armor, so be really careful to not let them hit you.

Build a portal at your main base, and then build one on the shore of whatever swamp you are going to crypt dive in. The portal won't let you transfer the ores but will let you get back home for rested, drop off random non-ore loot and just make things tons easier.

My first time in the swap I did it in Troll armor; in fact I still like using troll in every biome during my intial 'scouting' trips.

No bronze or copper weapons/gear.

What worked for me (and what I tend to continue to do) is take enough resources to set up a small walled area right on the water with some storage and also a portal.

Then I hit the tombs, mine, return to the 'outpost' and store the ore, rinse, repeat. The portal lets me pop out to repair when I need to and to get food/potions out of stock as needed. With the portal I never risk losing a lot of stuff as I don't need to carry a lot of stuff only resupplying as needed.

Once I have the ore I need I load the boat and sail off, leaving the portal if the area still has resources i can come back for.

So yes, your plan is completely doable. Just avoid the water, watch where you are going and take your time.

I'm more or less looking at doing the same with an added step of only getting enough iron for a lvl 2 pickaxe then I'm off to the mountains for prospecting for silver. Then I'll go back to the swamp to load up on iron in silver armour. Getting wolves while perched on a rock with a fine bow is much easier than dodging draugr arrows and leaping oozes.

Just build base in the middle of the swamp...

Bring a few pickaxes, you have to use them a lot, and they wear out ;D

Swamps are not that hard.
Especially if u r rested and you go during the day

just kite a troll in there and let him smash mobs up for you. i haven't managed to get a stone golem down in one yet, but i bet that'd be fun. bow's are your friend.
