advice with dealing with raids

Recently I joined a friends server. I helped them slay Moder and now I'm just starting to build a place for myself in their server. This has been a real pain as I have fought 3 raids in the last 3 hours. I fought 2 fuling hordes and 1 giant raid.

A new Fuling horde just started to attack. I am beyond annoyed. I signed off immediately because I wasn't in the mood to fight them. Since there are other people in the server, will the raid go away on its own as other people play in the server? is there a way i can get rid of this horde without loosing my building progress again?

You can set any reply as the answer to the question, since you are the original poster.

If you wanna be "cheap" about it, raise the ground to create impenetrable walls. It's expensive as hell in terms of the stone required to do so, but it'll give you the peace of mind to build freely and might as well serve as your actual walls once you're done. (I ended up building a massive plateau after beating the Elder because I got an even with trolls and they smashed my first base to pieces. Ended up serving me well!)

Or, as others have suggested, trenches. It's not pretty, but right now there are no ways to stop them other than to make sure you're away from your base at least once an hour, going by what lexikatt said. I certainly hope there'll be potions you can brew to temporarily stop them later on, because sometimes I just wanna sit in my longhouse with some friends and drink mead while chatting without the worry of invasions.

Did they get rid of claiming a post as the answer to a discussion?
The structures that trigger events, are good to know about and the best advice. When joining a server later, players should bunk with another player until their building is complete.

I deleted my bed and let the fires go out. I used a bed i threw in someones house and stayed nights there. This and probably some luck got raids to stop. My building is complete so now I'm not worried. This still seems rough. Unless you know how the nuanced mechanics work, building late is a serious pain. Knowing these mechanics is a bit immersion breaking. Glad to know how to play through it now.

The following link may contain spoilers, so don't click it if you don't want it!

https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Events

TLDR;
"Events have a 20% chance of starting every 46 minutes if there is a player within 40 meters of at least 3 base structures (except for the "You are being hunted..." event which doesn't require player base). The event is randomly selected from available events."

Have your friends give you their gear they've leveled past and keep food buffs up. It's being near the workstations that are doing it.

Following is a list of all crafting stations/'items' that count as Base Structures.

Walls

Walls

Walls

PIcket fences are not challenging to set up and can cover a large area of land. If enemies are outside the wall they tend to not aggro.

Unfortunately, Valheim progression is heavily tiered and does not play well unless everyone is on the same level. Find new friends.

Depends I guess. If the raids happening at all is the issue, you could take your current character to a new world with all the boss drops, but minus having to fight the bosses or get higher tier raids

unfortunately, luck is the issue here. I know I need walls or trenches. I can't build because I raid has happened every hour. Any start to a building will get crushed. I need a couple hours to build something.

Turthfully, I wish the raids weren't totally random. Bad luck like this is killing the game for me. There are other players in this server but only I am getting attacked. I can't build enough for defense (trench or walls). There was a post about joining a server late: I guess you shouldn't join people if they already started? I don't like this. I just want to build ONE building to have a place in that world but the random factors that choose me to get raids is overly punishing for no good reason.

Maybe raids should have more consistency so stuff like this doesn't happen and people don't have to build defenses just to have no raids for months. Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything about this.

Well for now, I have messaged the people in the server to stop this raid but this is the most I can do.

Try building your trench around an empty area to start. Raids need to have three base constructions, like workbench, fire, bed, or other interactables, to trigger. You can either remove everything but the bare walls, or dig around an empty field to prevent raids while you're putting up defenses.

I believe the hordes get stronger as in game days go on. You may have joined a very advanced stage game. What day is it on the server?

You have to stay within the red circle for two minutes to get the raid to time out. If you leave the circle, the timer will pause until you get back. If you run in and out of the circle, the mobs will hang around smashing your stuff and the raid will seem to take forever. If no one is around to load that area then the mobs will "not exist" until someone loads that zone again. I don't play multiplayer so I don't know all the finer details of what happens when your friend walks by your raid.

Dig a ditch with steep edges around your base and make sure the inside is covered by the workbench area of effect. Then you'll only have to worry about flying mobs.

Raids get stronger as bosses are killed in a world. The number of days makes no difference.

As I understand it, joining a server that others have played on extensively while you are starting with the basic start game Viking exposes one to all sorts of hazards missing from an unexplored world.

I would want to know what help other players on the server would be willing to provide.

This situation reminds me of a piece of dialogue early in the Cohen brothers' movie, Blood Simple. "In Russia, every one helps everyone else at least in theory. In Texas, you are on your own."

I admit the random raids sometimes can get on your nerves. Sometimes you think they come one after the other, then, for ingame weeks, nothing. You just have to live with these coming at the most inopportune moments (for me, that's nightfall. All my raids come at nightfall).

I actually had NO Fuling raid so far, even though I've beaten Moder weeks ago (ingame weeks). I had plenty of others, though. *shrug*

1: "Will the raid go away?"
No. Someone has to be physically present within the raid radius for the duration of the raid.
2: "Can I get rid of it?"
Not unless you fight them off or have your server buddies come in and help you take them on.

Advice: Dig trenches with your Pickaxe. If you have the Stone for it, build earthen walls either in conjunction with or in place of the trenches. Make sure that every spot inside your fortifications (i.e. trenches or earthwalls) is covered by a crafting bench radius (this will prevent spawns inside said radius).

If it ends up that you need a larger space, you can always flatten the walls or fill in the trenches, or just make them part of the aesthetic.
