what else does the game not tell me?

To keep it short.
I've killed 3rd boss, now I'm at the mountains, fully geared in silver ♥♥♥♥.
By an accident when I wrote a rant on reddit someone texted me that I'm able to tame animals (nothing in the game indicated that anything like that is possible) is there anything else I might be missing?

The one thing that every new player misses is the repair button. Somewhere out there, there is a player with chests full of broken bronze gear.

I've intentionally stayed away from spoiler rich environments. Although I'll facepalm when I find out I can do 'something' long after it was possible it only makes me more observant. I didn't do this in other survival games and they were more like vocational classes following a curriculum than an adventure survival game.
That being said there are some things in Valheim that don't have an intuitive component and a player is unlikely to completely figure it out without external guidance.

You can fish.

Sadly the pickaxe is so slow that the dps might actually be lower than a wooden club.

The iron mace, which you should have entering the mountains as its the best swamp weapon by far, does much higher dps against the golems.

Since they don't drop anything worthwhile I usually just ignore them.
However, along with tree supporting trolls.. they make pretty decent stone miners.

The one thing he complains about it the most common runestone info.

you can run UP things you cannot walk up, including walls you raised to keep things away, mountain slopes, more.
there are vertical dig and raise limits
all enemy have supernatural hearing.
you can fall off the edge of the world
you can't grow plains stuff anywhere else

I dunno, what else do you not know?

I find games that don't give up all their secrets too quickly hold my interest the longest.

I learned via the internet you could tame wolves and lox early. I've since tamed many wolves and boar. Have yet to tame a lox. I'm well over 1000 hours into Valheim.

If you look under "Guides", there's a lot of basic beginner tips & tricks written out by players who have done the work for you - https://steamcommunity.com/app/892970/guides/

Survival games rarely hold your hand when it comes to figuring out what you need to do next. The idea is that you're dropped into a world you have limited knowledge of beyond the basics, and need to explore/experiment to find out what you can do and learn how to progress. I totally get this is frustrating for some people, but it's good we have so many helpful people around to write out guides for those who don't want to go through the unguided explore & learn phase of survival games :)

The game doesn't explicitly tell you that sailing over the edge of the world is a very bad idea...

If you put a surtling core in a quick slot you can “use” it on an open fire.

If you haven’t already you should get some of the green stuff on the trees in the swamp.

Also this is written on a runestone somewhere in your world :

“This land is hard and wild but we who are brought here are harder still. Take comfort, traveller, in the gifts before you, the good wood and stone, the fruits and flowers of the forest.
Look also to the wild boar who roam these lands. They fear fire and the hand of man but they can be taught to obey it. Go quietly to them and let them eat of your stock. Roots of the ground are their pleasure.”

So technically the game does tell you

Make nails to craft lots of stuff.

Make cultivator to plant seeds.

Make cooking pot for better food and potions.

Bees make honey. You can make a bee house with a queen.

There is a trader.

Harpoon from Leviathan barnacles.

I'm sure I am forgetting a ton. Part of the game is discovery of items for crafting. They don't tell you a lot of things.

The color of damage numbers matters. White=normal. Yellow=Weakness. Grey=Resistant. So the type of weapon you are using can have a significant impact.
For instance you can spend all day shooting bonemass with regular arrows because he's resistant to piercing....or you can spend under 3 minutes giving him a beat down with a iron mace since he's weak to blunt damage.
The games gives you enough information to figure everything out, it just doesn't handhold and spell everything out in specific detail.
Like for taming, a stone tells you you can tame boars, and only certain animals say "wild, hungry" when you target them, another hint.

Thanks for the tips!
yeah I gotta say I missed the writing, , but I would've appreciated if the writing included how I have to put boards around the boars and move a distance away (but not too far) to lose aggro and give them food for breeding etc etc.
I know it's early access so I'm zipping my mouth :$
