Huge security risk to host a dedicated server?
So my partner has the game world we play on on his PC and I can only access it when he is playing as well, so i brought up the idea of a dedicated server to him and he has veto'd it saying we will get all our home documents stolen our financial information, etc etc., that most people hosting valheim do so at their own peril etc.
Is he right? I felt like he was fear mongering and being overly cautious, but... is he right? And if he is, if having a dedicated server on our home network (like 99% of all valheim players) to play Valheimm doesn't that mean that most people on here are running a huge personal and financial risk to play this game?
I just want to be able to play independently from him, is my only safe option a different seed?

How much they have to pay you to fanboi for them? With Microsoft Windows it is a very HIGH risk but with Linux no risk!

He is overreacting while still there is some theoretical risk as every PC with internet connection can be hacked as long as it's turned on and connected to the internet.
But to be 100 % safe you can rent a server to run Valheim so it's not in your home network and you can shut down your PC when not playing.
A rent server is about 10 EUR per month.
Good to know I will be checking this out, thank you!

The way I see it, every player should have their own world where they can do stuff and store things if needed, a sort of refuge. I don't foresee any difficulty in doing that together with my partner or several friends. We've been playing together on some servers as well, but for me my own world/seed serves as the backbone of the entire experience.
Hmm maybe that's what i need to do as well... I just get so lonely in the massive world by myself haha

for security, your more likely to have your account hacked if you click a bogus link then someone hacking into your computer directly.
unless your partner is some famous person, the chance's of a normal person getting randomly hacked is about 0.01%
you have a much higher risk of a phone scam then ever getting hacked.
