for early game the spear

I used to like daggers for the running backstab and jump attack but the mace knockback has been pretty nice. Also the mace special attack while jumping at the enemy is fun, like home running someone in Smash bros. That being said, all the weapons in this are pretty baller

I use weapons according to the lore. So its based on type of enemies.

The ones i can aim. Currently only the bow, throwing spear and mace because of its vertical swing. All others i struggle because i cant aim up or down so the attacks strike the floor or go overhead. I do like the polearm moveset and the hammers knock back.

Bow/mace

I'm using a bow and mace, mainly, Use axe also for smaller fry, trying to keep axe and club skills in balance.

How do you define top weapons? Obvioulsy if you go just by stats, Plains level weapon will obviously be the best ones...
So I am going to go by a different metric.... how useful is the weapon both in its own as well as later biomes?
1. Iron Mace - not only it is the king of the Swamps, it remains the best weapon for fighting Golems in the Mountains and Growth in the Plains.
2: Draugr Fang - despite being only a Mountains-tier weapon, it remains the best bow in the game simply because there is no Plains-level bow. And bows are quite useful in the Plains so it definitely has a place on the list.
3. Iron Sledge - pretty much the best area weapon until the Blackmetal Atgeir two tiers later.
It decimates everything in the Swamps, even allowing you to kill enemies behind walls and scrap piles without even having to fight them. It is also excellent for dealing with hunt invasions in the Mountains while using Bonemass power.

Why is iron mace king of swamps? It's probably because my stats are much lower on the mace, but I tried it recently and had to switch back to the sword.

Edit: The iron sledge is fun in a crypt if you can get it. :-)

I'm a bow guy. For close encounters I switch to a sword or a blunt weapon. 450 hours in and I never crafted a spear. I really should craft a spear.

Of course, you have to use the bow, and the Draugr Fang is very nice.

Other than that, I use shield and sword almost exclusively. the parry and thrust maneuver with a sword will 1-shot almost everything.

I didn't now unarmed was a choice. :-)

I don't pull a weapon for anything in meadows or BF. My specialty is the neck kick, which you really should try sometime, but my favorite is the greyling kick. Watching a greyling fly through the air after kicking him in the groin is hilarious!

Atgeir. It's got reach, speed, and a crowd clearing move. The best defense is everything dying when it dares get close to you. Blocking, rolling, and running are wastes of stamina that should be spent skewering your opponent.
