(For those browsing through and don't already know: Level 1 fishes of any type yield 1 raw fish when processed at the Cauldron and each additional level increases the yield by 3 more, all fish types can go up to level 5)

Having actual unique uses for each variety would be nice. Maybe devs can start incorporating that with forthcoming updates.

I'd say Fine Wood rather than regular. Fish make for some fairly potent recipes during start-game, so delaying their general availability with a fishing rod (as opposed to their by-luck availability by waiting for one to beach itself - which would still be an option, just less speedy and viable) would work better being delayed until you get to the Bronze Age. Also, in-universe, Fine wood would have the flexibility to make a good rod. Regular wood, not so much.

I would imagine they will expand fishing recipes in the Saga Worthy Seas update, which should hopefully not take quite so long as its just going to be recipes and goodies added to the ocean and not require an entire new biome from the ground up.

It's a moot point now that converting them to raw fish requires a cauldron, you can't just grab a floor fish and cook it. Heck if things made sense you'd use the butchers table to fillet them.

Cauldron requirement slipped my mind on that part (even though I had mentioned it in a previous paragraph), so, yeah, there is already a Bronze Age progression lock for using fish.

The pure mechanic of fishing is improved the trophys are nice and the chance one fish will produce many more fish portions is excellent..

However..

In all fairness fish are stupid as hell in real life as well though. Haha!
