i cant really be bothered to sit there making copies of game files, assuming that is how to do it.

you can copy the entire directory into a backup folder; it's not THAT hard

is that there the save files are? in the steamgame directory? not even sure about that.

not interested in going on a scavenger hunt for game files like its 1998.

like slofish said what`s the problem with making a copy of worlds_local and characters_local? Then you have your chars and worlds secured... . Of course considered you don`t save everything in the cloud.

edit: C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim that`s where you find your files.

my newer stuff isnt in there, which means its probably in the cloud.

Then deactivate cloud in valheim properties in steam, fire up any world and char you wanna save and log out (of the world) then the game should`ve made the files.

as long as the biomes in ur old worlds are discovered no changes will be applied to those bioms. but the undiscovered bioms will change as the update says.

Most games save in the directory Nameless gave you but they're usually listed by
the developer not the game's name

there are of course some oddballs you need to search for

im talking about not going into the world at all until the 1.0 patch comes.

i want to make a distinct test world and test character without affecting my existing worlds.

my hypothesis is, if i never actually load the old worlds and characters, they wont be impacted by the patch.

? in that case just make a new character and world and you'll have a new set of saves

your old saves/worlds/characters are not touched

you can take any character into any world
backup your present save so if your 'test' is not a success you can just resume
your game

if it is a success you can even bring items back into your present world

Can't say I know, but assume not since you actually had to load the worlds and characters you wanted to update from old to new savesystem when savesystem got changed in a past patch.
