The mistlands mechanics are really bad.
The mist mechanic in the new Mistlands update is truly a horrible mechanic. The player can’t see anything, but all monsters can see you from miles away!? Even the Gjall shoot you down when you are covered in mist, and you don't even hear the horn sound untill it's too late.
And I know you can place torches everywhere. But do I really need to lose another 2 slots in an already overfull inventory?
Not to mention the horrendous terrain in Mistlands. You get stuck on every nook and cranny, stuck behind every root and every lose rock on your way to where you want to go.
Try getting you're corpse back when you die, and are out of food and back up gear.
I was looking forward to mislands. Very unexpected, but I actually uninstalled the game.

Mobs don't always know where I am. I spot Seekers before they see me all the time, even in dense fog. A spoiler gives them away.
I don't know how this is possible. I can't see anything in front of me, literally nothing. And I always get spotted first. The fog is so thick I can see maybe one meter ahead.
Maybe it's a settings issue. I just run on high normally and never had any problems.
But even if it's a settings issue, it really shouldn't be.
Give yourself a little more time. You will get good. And it isn't true that you can see nothing. You can see the fog.
Of course, if I'm going to play Yoda, I should have written, "The fog, you can see."
Seriously, there are circumstances when the fog and your ears will disclose the location of an enemy good enough for a bow shot, or to take evasive action.
And maybe you don't yet know about mistlights?

Are you stealthed? I sneak around and usually see mobs before they see me. Of course it takes being very patient and careful, but this is what I've done with each new biome. In the mountains, wolves destroyed me so fast, I didn't know how I'd beat them. Now they're easy, but for a while I was sneaking whenever I didn't have to jump or sprint to navigate the terrain. Same with the swamp. Draugrs were brutal at first, so I stealthed everywhere until I could safely run around the biome normally.

In earlier biomes we learned very quickly to use our hearing as well as our vision and the developers have even used some overt clues like the troll wiggling its nose to show that our enemies can sense us as well. The insect creatures in Mistlands are probably modeled on real world equivalents who have very poor vision but well developed tactile ability to feel vibrations in the earth from nearby predators (and prey).

So you don't like it and as an act of what--defiance? temper tantrum?--you uninstalled and took the time to complain here in the Steam forum (where devs don't look of course so it's a useless gesture). Cool story I guess, I'm sure there are other games that you'll enjoy. Maybe.
And you took the time to come here and pick this particular thread, even though the title was very clear what is was about, and started to complain about my post. Cool story I guess...

Here's a 'better' idea...
In the mist your attacks have a 30% chance to miss and do no damage and enemies have a 10% chance to critical from a sneak attack. Also the mist follows you around so once you leave the biome it stays with you like the wet condition unless a wisp removes it for you.
When wet inside the mist you take frost damage even with a frost resistance and if you stay in the mist too long you randomly teleport to another cloud of mist.

Feather cape should be able to be gotten immediately after killing a few enemies.. by the time you get it and it should be useful you are basically done with the zone.
The wisplight should be able to be upgraded to T4.. each time extending the radius of it's reach and the quickness of the clearing effect..

I'm just not having the same kind of experience.
I get by with one wisp light. The terrain is challenging, but it's difficult to fall to your death. (I would have managed it by now.) I got stuck once and dug my way out with the pickax. It certainly does not happen all the time.
The Gjall are cool as hell. Love the horn. From time to time, a straight up quote of the two note horn from Spielberg's War of the Worlds war machines would be fun to hear, and they might as well acknowledge the inspiration, if any. (Maybe when two Gjall were on the scene)
Idk whether the mobs have been nerfed, since I got a late start. I find them challenging, but I wouldn't run home crying if they got tougher.
Mobs don't always know where I am. I spot Seekers before they see me all the time, even in dense fog. A spoiler gives them away.
And then you come to a clear area just at sunset or sunrise, the sky flooded crimson because of the fog, and wander amid forgotten temples and the rusting armor of giants.
Please.

You have those who love the mistland as is and those who truly hate the fog and the silly mechanics behind removing it. The solution is just what everyone keep saying provide better options to remove greater areas of the mist. So if you love the game as is you can keep running around in the fog and if you hate it give us cool new options to remove it. The final solution is for the dev's to put in a server side option to shut the fog off period. That way I can go in and shut it off. As with most of the valhiem world they kinda of half ass everything like initially being destroyed by the mistland creatures in the meadows because everyone builds with wood (oops).. Not sure how that got overlooked... Hell they added all the new granite blocks and didn't even add the same blocks for stone which are just re-skins. They tend to focus in on one thing and leave wide areas of important items unaddressed. They need to get a real road map together and stick too it or just take the money and say we are millionaires now thank you and we are done.

Yes yes, and if you are using the new cape & are in the air for too long, your boots and pants fall off

My number one ask since the public test version of mistlands back in november was to make the tools for clearing the mist better. The wisplight barely does its job and the wisp torches are garbage. They also need to add a more expensive base piece that clears a BIG area of mist.
With that being said the devs nerfed the enemies into the ground a few weeks back. None of the stuff in the mist is really that scary anymore, unless you are out at night.
Tools are ok if the mechanic is ok. But the mist mechanic itself is just crap imo.
Enemies can see me and shoot me but I can't see them at all? That's just nonsense.
Last time I tried to retrieve my corpse and I took some wisp lights with me. When I tried placing them I got "incorrect placement" (because I couln't see anything). And before I knew it I was dead because I got shot out of nowhere.
It's just not a fun or interesting mechanic. It's just an annoyance.
