mods for local server

I don't plan on hosting a dedicated server, but just a local one. How would mods affect those that join? Is there something I need to do to add the mods to the server or can i just load them client side and the other players also need to load them client side and thats it?

if you're playing by yourself, on your own computer, (or server), YOU are the only person affected by the mods YOU install.

if you install mods to a server, YOU AND OTHER PLAYERS will need to install the same mods LOCALLY on their own machines.

but it sounds more like the former rather than the latter....

to answer your topics question....if you join a DIFFERENT server (other than your own), YOUR client side mods will most likely STILL WORK, but only for YOU. no one will be the wiser unless you make it known.

i suppose its closer to the former? As i understand it there are 3 ways to play:

1. singleplayer on your own machine
2. multiplayer on a p2p connection via a locally hosted server on your machine
3. multiplayer via a dedicated server hosted on your own machine or otherwise

im playing the 2nd way, where i just click "start server" and enter a password and my friends join my server, but it isn't an official dedicated server. so long as my friends and i have mods installed that should be that right? no need to add the mods ot any server files anywhere or that I must use a dedicated server for everyone to experience the same mods?

From what I've been told, things like calculations are determined using the host, the example I was given was if you had a mod that gave you the ability to fire a fireball at an enemy, only the host with the mod will see the fireball, the other players would not see the fireball, however the damage would still count towards the enemy's health. This can lead to either the experience being awkward, or might even cause actual problems and crashes.

Someone will have to correct me if I got something wrong, however I will stand by the idea that everyone installing the mods themselves as well as the host is the best option.
