Logging off on a boat

Anyone ever tried?

Especially when you're with 2 ppl on a boat if one logs off and the other one goes on sailing. Where you spawn when logging back in? On the boat or in the sea?

My friends router just reset itself and when he came back he was in the water and had lost the boat and black metal he was carrying etc.

He made it to shore by logging out when almost out of stamina. Apparently stamina is full when you log back in. He came ashore at night in a goblin village but made it out alive.

But that was a disconnect on his server, not a "log out" as such. Not something I want to try and regret though.

I have logged out in SP while on the Karve on several occasions. When I returned I was in the water once, but never lost any gear.

Loosing inventory is probably caused by the disconnect. We had mate, who freshly spawned on our server, we equipped him. He had a disconnect and got resetted about 10-15 minutes

I have logged off on my Karve numerous times on SP....and logged back on and my character crawls up off the deck and says "i have arrived" with everything intact...of course, I am never standing on the boat when I log off. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Both my son and I logged off and we lost the boat, spawned in the water and found the boat adrift far away from where we left it.

Not sure about SP, but what I've heard is that on MP never log out while on a boat (unless the boat is close to the shore, since you can deal with the consequences there).

Don't do it in MP!

Not even when seated. You get dropped back in at 'your' x.y so if the boat has moved at all, you're in the water.

A boat keeps drifting around when someone is still in it but totally stops when everyone has actually stepped out. Maybe it's a bug where the game thinks you haven't left the boat and places it further away when you quit the game while still in the boat.

From what I understand the boat will totally and suddenly stop when you get off it.

So maybe to be sure just jump in the water and swim to the ladder and log out then. That way when you log back in you should still be right by the ladder.

Exactly.

If you log out, the boat lowers its sails, but doesn't lose momentum.
So when you get disconnect and spawn somewhere in the ocean, try to recall the general direction you were sailing in and you should find your boat again a few clips outside of your render range

When you want to log out on a boat, always bring it to a full stop first, by jumping off and climbing back in.

So far (in SP) when I've logged out in a carve I'm in the water right next to it when I log back in.

How has this not been addressed yet? I'm no coder but couldn't you make an if else statement for the boat?
if you log out in a boat (entity) then your x.y is attached to the boat and then you log back in on that entity?

nope
for sp, its fine
when you logoff while on a boat, you are left at the boats position for that world

for mp if someone is taking your on a boat ride, or your boat is moved after you logoff, you are left in the ocean with no boat

tying your body to the boat could be a fix, but if the boat is destroyed or moved, then your spawn at that point would probably be ok
