I would like to see a screen shot because what you are saying contradicts what everyone else is saying.

Not sure anyone knows this for sure. The trees are so numerous that running out isn't really a problem, evening for the fine wood. But you also plant them later as others have said. Planting is really just a convenient way to get the seeds out of your inventory however Oak and Birch seeds are nice to plant because fine wood isn't as plentiful.

Thinning out large trees, so smaller trees can grow, is not a game mechanic. Small trees do not grow larger in this game. I have experimented numerous time, removing large trees, and leaving smaller ones, then marking the location on my map. I have never seen a tree that I did not plant, grow beyond the size that it was when I first saw it. There may be mods, that influence the growth of flora in this game, but without a mod trees do not grow or respawn.

They do not.

You can get seeds however, which you will be able to plant... eventually.

Perhaps, if there is any growth mechanic, clearing stumps helps making room for smaller trees (like cutting down nearby trees)? I always clear them anyway, so as to feel more in a wild environment next time I visit the place.

once you get to the point you can replant they grow pretty fast fyi. its cool planting pine and fir trees by your meadows base

be advised planting trees requires seed and another tool (cultivator)
so seeds can be obtained by cutting down trees and the cultivator requires a little work but after that one can plant forests
