Hearth, Iron Cooking Station and Comfort Level???

Hi, I just discovered the Hearth and Iron cooking station.

Iam unable to get the Iron Cooking Station to cook meat over a Hearth. I put down two camp fires that work with two seperate cooking stations, but not with one Iron Cooking Station. I simply tried to remove the normal cooking stations that work fine and replaced them with one Iron Cooking Station and it does not cook. Is that intended? WIki says otherwise. Its not a big bother, just future planning if I cant use that area I have the cooking built at.

Second, I built a Hearth and it upgraded my comfort level directly in front of the fire, but if I go behind a core wood beam, I drop to level 10? Its line of site, not distance from the hearth?

Thank you for any assistance.

If this works...lol, this is what Im working on now. Very amateur, I know. But, Im adding space behind the hearth and adding more trophies and rugs...etc. Trying to see the best areas and combinations.

Here is the other side of the hearth. Im just starting with stone and all that. Just enjoying the game.

It sounds like you got the bigger cooking station. That has to go along the long axis of the hearth to work.

Once I got the hearth squared away, I was able to get the Iron station to work. Just needed some expansion and trial and error.

Er, you'd need to post images to tell for sure.

I had an iron cooking hook on 2 campfires and it worked before, i use it on the hearth and it works as well....

Likely you are moving out of range of a different piece of furniture. Look at the wiki to see where the radius' are. The weirdest one for me is the hot tub comfort range.

Second point: comfort is a radius from many different things depending on where u stand/sleep you may be nearer or not from a table or rug for eg.. not just the hearth. Also near the hearth you should see the fire icon so its working..if not u too far away

Thanks for the info. I placed the Dragon Bed in the middle of the room and that leveled the entire area to lvl 11. Im content with that for now, I just know I need to open the room a bit more.

Thanks again.

future planning... you need about a 5x5 room for all the major categories to fit all the junk you will need with a bit of storage and some aesthetic appeal : bedroom/comfort, kitchen (can be about 1/2 the 5x5 if you don't do many storage chests), crafting (assumes smelters and windmill and such are outside, else need even more space and height and smoke vents), even trophy display (optional, but theres a lot of them). Its possible to combine kitchen and bedroom if you really squeeze it in and loft some items on a wall.
what I have been doing is hearth over bedroom ... this nets me the comfort from below but I don't have to deal with a chimney, the top level has all the fires and an extra high roof with ventilation.
anyway, a single hearth will do a 5x cook rack, as will 2 campfires placed carefully. Its a little harder to get 3 items working together but its doable. I usually just do 2 hearths, since you still need the cooking pot... but I long sense realized there are 20+ ways to do anything in this game, all equally valid.
