Have they fixed the lag?

Back when the game released I played a fair bit,
I had hoed a lot of the ground around my base, and apparently that's the culprit for the lag, as the game remembers the previous state and the current state the ground was and is (so I'm told)

This dropped my frames from 60 to 20 when at my base,
Reason I stopped playing for a long time, it was unbearable.
I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ my hoe away after this.

Has anything changed since?

First, add “-console” as a launch argument for Valheim, then once you're in-game use the console command “optterrain.” Afterwards, all the terrain nearby will be converted to the new system." -google

Yes. Basically the game only remembers the final state you leave terrain in, not each little change you make to get there, so modifying terrain has much less impact. Plus there were other changes to improve frame rates.
