I wouldn't call you a 'new player' if you're already in the Iron Age.

I would strongly suggest you take a look at this wiki for detailed info: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Weapons

Then pick a weapon combination that suits your play style. For me, I'm in the Iron Age that has access to silver. So I am wearing mostly upgraded Iron, with Frostner and an Iron Shield, complemented with a Huntsman's Bow.

I think Mharr would have a better and more specific advice for you. If only I can tag him.

I'm in iron age too (this is my 2d run up to iron).
As I'm a chicken chit, I'm very afraid of the plains, in which I've not set foot yet.
I've seen that most evil souls in the plains are week to spirit damage, obtainedwith the Frostner hammer (club damage). So I've specialized in clubs, masses and now I just Frostner.
Note that Frostner uses lots of stamina.

is weapon skills are making a difference, for example i use bronze sword rn and axe and sword and bow skills are currently high, If i decided to go frostner or any club category wepaon low skill will effect me high or just a small effect?

When you look at your currently equipped weapon, you see the theorical damage number,. Then in yellow you see the real damage you can obtain with your level.

I only really have experience of swords and knives, but they both sound well suited. Shield for parry, low knockback so you can land three hit combos, huge backstab damage on the secondary. (more relevant when fighting in a team) Knives are faster with a longer lunge, swords have better overall reach.

It's really all down to what suits you personally though. A weapon whose timing matches your twitch instincts is worth more than any stats analysis and they're all viable.

I think this may have been automatically moved to suggestions in error. OP is looking for personal suggestions, not proposing changes for the game.

Frostner does carry a bit of + due to the frost damage causing most foes to be stunned for a moment after each strike.

Frostner has gotten me out of so many doomed scenarios with this small amount of crowd control.

Plus having a bit of elemental damage means nothing has blanket resistance to your attacks. I'm really looking forward to Dyrnwyn becoming part of the game proper because of this.
