Was this cheating?
Hey guys, I just wanted to ask if what I'm about to describe is cheating. Or even if it was justified cheating at least.
I was going up a mountain for wolf fur, when suddenly I got "You are being hunted" which is no problem, I fought and killed like 5 but ultimately died, again, no problem, I did a naked run up there and it wouldn't let me take my items, I got one shot by a drake, no problem. I went another 2 times, died, and finally I got there, I click "take all" and it doesn't work, so I click it again and it says I'm encumbered (Despite not being encumbered when I died and being completely naked.) I was killed by a wolf AGAIN. I tried to do a run up there but I decided it's bugged or glitched so I used FLY to get my items. I never spawned anything in or used devcommands before. I don't like using commands and cheats and just want to know if this was justified or unjustified cheating

My apologies, @Complaintdesk, @Behind_You but that is simply not true. They're called "devcommands" (developer commands) for a reason. And before that, they were called "imacheater" for a reason.
It is cheating. The game mechanics are NOT broken in this case. You can obtain your stuff the intended and usual way, if you so desire and if you do it the right way.
But I'm still not going to judge @Ghost, because they were doing it for them personally on a local world. It's their world, they can do with it whatever they want.
It's still not the intended way to play the game and you CAN play the game the intended way. There's nothing broken (except for very few stuck cases and tombstones in trees, that were fixed).
I mean, why can't people accept themselves that they did cheat? There's nothing wrong with that? Why do they have to disguise it behind a weak "the game is broken" when it is clearly not.
In my case, the game cheated for me, but I wasn't going to cry foul about that. So I accepted that my body returned this time through a cheat, even though I had retrieved it the intended way literally over a hundred times before and after that.
There was never any doubt I could NOT retrieve my body through regular game mechanics.
But, again, do what you want in your own world. It is yours.

I would have done that on my regular ruleset save. I will use the devcommands if I get stuck or if it will take me hours to recover. I will use them freely in build saves and In my hard rulesets there is no commands at all, i would have started a new character and left the corpse to rot. I think with you coming out here, you already know the answer to your own question. It's your game save, don't feel bad for playing in a way that makes you happy.

what I did to avoid this, make a new bow, get new tools, place camp fire everywhere, rest bonus and eat food, return to my body, kill that drake before he screw you, your tomb isn't going to disappear, so you should have taken your time.

The looting the body thing is like Diablo 2 in a way if you picked up anything a Blue Berry anything it took a slot and when you grab your gear nothing auto fills so 2 stacks of berries now and well you where full so can't get the take all to work fully, have had it happen a few times and it was by a Wolf haha back in the day.

It is not cheating. This game is in Early Access, the developers placed certain workarounds for when one gets stuck (players were never intended to get stuck), ones tombstone appears in an inaccessible place (also not intended), Ghost is encumbered when he should not be (unless he forgot to equip Megingjord). For these reasons and a few more the developers instituted devcommands so players could rectify unintended aspects of their game experience without jumping through hoops waiting for technical support.

In order to be able to run up and just click your tombstone to get all your items back instantly, you have to be 100% "empty"... no inventory whatsoever, otherwise you have to stop and open the tombstone and manually grab your items one at a time.
If you were wearing the belt (that allows you to carry more weight) when you died, then that will also affect the "quick-grab" ability and you will have to stop and open the tombstone and take your things back one at a time, and unfortunately, many times this means you are likely going to get attacked by anything close by, especially if you didn't let some time pass (sleep) to allow the critters to (hopefully) disperse and wander away from your loot....
Your loot doesn't "expire" it will stay there indefinitely until you go back and get it, so usually a good idea to sleep to advance time, then get your rested bonus and eat your best foods, then do a completely naked deathrun... bring one frost resist potion and drink it when you get to the snow to give you the frost protection but also have empty inventory when you arrive, click and grab your loot and keep on running until you are safe.
Of course using the console commands is "cheating" but it doesn't affect anyone but yourself.

Yes for sure cheating, just look it up on the cheats list: Hey guys, I just wanted to ask if what I'm about to describe is cheating. Or even if it was justified cheating at least.

-Bone Mass ability
-Bringing level 2 wolves outside of your base
-Dev commands to retrieve dead body, especially if it was lost due to broken mechanics
-Metal chest or pants
-Poison resistance potions
-Frost resistance potions (once you have the frost gear its cheating)
-Heavy shields
-Heavy weapons
-Kiting with bow or killing anything besides drakes with the bow basically
-Sniping with bow while sneaking

So, you cheated. Play out the toon. Get better at the game. Roll another toon, play it with all the skills and insights from the first one. Chances are, you won't need to cheat.
The only real cheating I don't like seeing are when I see people on multiplayer twinking themselves with gear from another toon from another world. Just gear up like the rest of the players.
The rest, sure kinda cheese, but who cares in a single player world. My latest toon has been using dwarf spawner to farm weapons skill points in my permadeath world. All of his skill are much higher than my other ones were at the same stage in game, so better dps. Better survivability. Cheating? Cheese? I don't know, don't care. Single player game, I will play it how I want.

I am guessing you were playing as a solo player on a local instance?
If that was the case then the only person who can answer your question is you.
Do you feel like you cheated yourself out of any feeling of enjoyment you might have found from getting your stuff back through the normal mechanics of the game?
If so then you cheated.
Was any possible enjoyment that you would have received from getting your stuff the normal way already outweighed by the feeling of frustration of so many failed attempts?
If so then you didn't cheat.
Again it is something only you can answer if you were solo, as in that case, no one else's opinion matters.

It's a cheat, but who cares? You decide on how you want to play this game.
I actually had pretty much the same thing happen to me, and through some very bad decisions of mine I kept dying and dying over and over again. The last time I just was clicking the "Take all" button when I got killed by a wolf.
Woke up in my bed and was surprised I was encumbered... I had everything still on me.
Technically I didn't cheat, but the game did it.
I wasn't going to cry about it and went on my merry way... ;)

Thanks for the response that helps :). I just have a thing about feeling like I cut corners, I don't like cheating because it can feel unfair, but it is a game and you can decide to play however you want. It's a cheat, but who cares? You decide on how you want to play this game.

You did cut a corner. :) But I'm not going to judge you for this. Only you can. So do whatever you feel is right.

i agree - of course its cheating BUT:
its your game and you decide what you gonna do
so
its up to you - if you just want to retreive your stuff its fine to use cheats imho
no one has the right to judge you for the decision youve made
i also use cheats for creative builds in a "creative game" and only for that
i still got my survival game
