Flippin Rain!!!
I spent a good hour and a half to two hours laying out my house, footing my beams, framing and laying floors. I got all of my walls up and started on the roof when it began to rain tremendously. I tried to finish but my entire build was water damaged 80-85 %. I'm talking even the first floor, which was closed in by walls and the flooring on the second floor, even that got destroyed!!!
What kind of horse hockey is that?!!! Come on YO!! Water destruction in less than a day?!
That has got to get changed!
This is a first major thumbs down for this game... I need to walk away because I'm so tight right now, it's not even funny!!

I learned that this was the way it works the hard way. Having to go back through and repair every thing is just as time consuming as building it in the first place so now I frame one side and put the load bearing beam on and just roof that beam which protects every thing underneath it. Then I put up the next frame and beam and roof the beam. If I'm going up another floor then I frame up one the next floor and repeat the roofing. Once i get up as many floors as I'm going I put the roof completely on as it will be for the rest of the time that base exists. After that I put walls and floors (and anything else I want) in. No rain damage that way though its a bit more of a pain to build it that way.

@pipo.p, Are you saying that it acceptable to have 50% woodrot/degradation call it what you will, in just a single rain fall?
Look, I'm not saying water damage on an uncovered structure is not a good idea. But the rate of damage in such a short amount of time is ridiculous!!!

Yeah it’s annoying, but it’s a max 50% loss, not 80. Easy to fix with a hammer when the rain stops or you finish the roof. Water has that effect on wood, and time flows different in Valheim so the weathering is much quicker.
Yes it is very annoying. Grrrrrr.
My real main gripe is just how fast the degradation happens! I mean, pieces of my house looked like the abandoned huts spread all over the place! SMH...
As far as my 80-85 % comment, I meant the house as a total since there were some pieces that were still new and unaffected!!

You're welcome.
Thanks everyone, I will definitely be modding that aspect of Valheim!!

this rain cant destroy anything. It can only degrade it to 50%. Whip out you hammer and repair it. Everything is fine.

If you're doing a really detailed build this can fudge you up badly, but for the average player who's just snapping a few pieces together and calling it a house.. all of that can be repaired and improved.
Restore your world to a previous backup autosave. I had to do this in one of my 200hr builds im working on, as soon as I took the roof off to adjust it, the rain ruined about 100hr's worth of custom woodwork, many of which were pieces clipped into this and that, couldn't be repaired.
Auto saves are a life saver, just restore your stuff :)

V+ has an option that allows you to fix everthing within a radius, which is really fun. Just make sure you don't need stamina immdiately after!

Valheim seems to be on the rainier side of Seattle.

Not giving any lesson here, but why do you think that when I rebuild an abandonned tower, I most of the time start by building a temporary roof, before working on the lower floors? When I come to the last one, I remove the roof and start building higher.
i understand that this is not always easy or practical to do with large and extended structures, but temporary roofs and scaffoldings are inherent to the job, the same way as you seldom let your current workbench uncovered for a long time, if you know that you might have to repair your tools quite soon.
In short, I'm not saying that rain damage (and flooding damage alike) is fine as it is, but it is certainly not a "kind of horse hockey" "That has got to get changed" because "This is a first major thumbs down for this game". LOL
Why isn't this a constructive suggestion that proposes a real change, and not just a vent and a declaration of dislove, something like exposition, criticism, proposal, or thesis, antithesis, synthesis?
No need to go hyperbolic to get understood, you know.

Flooring wont work as a roof for rain, you need actual roof pieces to prevent water damage.
