Graydwarves swimming

How far out do I have to build walls to prevent them from swimming around the outer edge and coming into my homestead? Or is there another way to keep them entering by water? They're just doing annoying damage, they're not really dangerous except for killing my boars.
Someday I'll have tame wolves to guard the place but until then ???

Are you a bot or something?

Maybe a language barrier?

I build a moat around my house and they cannot jump over it. Very simple and 100% effective.

I ran into the same issues OP. Built palisade walls as far out as possible into deep water, and the enemies swim around them.

Island bases work perfectly; don't even need a wall.

Or you could just 'trick' the enemies. Build a wall around your whole base on land, but leave an area open. Enemies will go to that area, where you might have a field of stakes, trenches they get stuck in, wolf defenders, etc. Sort of like a tower defense entrance maze.

Well what I did was I built a house on stilts, and then raised the ground up under the house and my land, and I built a dock for my boat, they can swim all they want, they wont get in, occasionally I head one banging on my door on the fence line, but its not that big of an issue.

My problem is now I can't really extend my land much, I got friends I play with and Im in the middle of them so I can only build up my land so far.

My other buddy next to me dug out around his base, close to water level, the land is like on a side of a hill, he built a wall around his land on the low side and then put spikes between the wall and the land up top, so they sometimes fall into the hole and kill themselfs, works pretty good. The water side he lined up spikes down the coast on his property, he has a dock and a boat, sometimes we hear one of them swimming around his boat, but have been easy to just go a shoot them with a bow and go on doing what we were doing.

Its not hard, multiple ways of avoiding the swimmers, But they sure do like the boats so I would recommend not having land across the water from you home, we had Trolls come by and beat the crap out of our boats from the land cross from us during a night raid.

You can build a wall out but you need to cut back after you are in the water. They won't go backwards much to go around, but it needs to be out in the water.

Also you can dig trenches a certain way so they come in along the shore but get hung up on a ridge... like cutting a channel up and dig it out a bit to catch them along the shore. Again they won't swim out if they get caught in a channel and it directs them closer a bit like a scoop. You can keep them there as pets to slow down other spawns or use them for target practice.

That said though I found it easier to just not build along the shore..

Basically like this

Note the ridge under water can't be too high up.. basically you want them swimming into the pocket.. if they can stand they will more likely go around.
You may have to mess with it to get it right but it works for most stuff... not trolls ha ha.. well haven't tried one that large.

Totally agree. And the fact they can fight while swimming and you cant. Some even fire arrows from underwater!

I think the advantages we have over the mobs hugely outweigh the few they have against us.

  • We are outrageously smarter than they are.
  • We can jump over things.
  • We can outrun most mobs.
  • In combat, mobs are required to telegraph their attacks.
  • Mobs don't get to sneak up on us. They make noise.
  • Mobs have labels over their heads that make them highly visible.
  • Mobs are not required to commit suicide, but I wonder if that's coming.

Stakes under water, they can't attack them and will grind against them the entire way until they just die.

They'll just keep swimming all the way around, best to wall off the entire coast. Unfortunately that makes boat access a little tricky, but you can place gates in the water to act as boat gates.

I'll have to get done pics when I get home from work in the morning, but I built a wall along the edge of my base with a bombfire at the ends. Haven't had an issue. Not even with raids.

However, I do have wolves as well, and lox on the other end. Only threat are deathsquito's if my lox start wandering too far from the base.

Anyway, point is, they seem to swim only so far down the wall before they give up. For me anyway.
