i've wondered about this, bc lately i've been using the serpent shield and a few times have parried brutes.

Nope , pushing with a tower shield is just normal blocking so gives normal blocking exp , parrying with a buckler or round shield gives almost x2 blocking exp

Yeah, the point of bucklers is to improve your damage output, and the point of tower shields is to turn your brain off on defense

Tower shield gives you much more raw block power. why do you still want it to parry with it?

I never tried it because tower shields are too slow to use. If you can;t parry with tower shields, that's even more reason to never bother with them.
