Super copper deposit.
I have been bored in the game and when i was mining a copper deposit i thought to myself to dig around the copper deposit that you can see above ground and what i found underground was amazing. i haven't finished digging it all up just as of yet but when i do i will post some screen shots on my profile.
has anyone else done or seen this befor? this deposit is about 5 times maybe even bigger then what you normaly see above ground, i have been digging around the copper and uncove it all for 1 full day ( in game day ) and i am still going

Every time I find a copper node i want to harvest, I ALWAYS start by digging along one side, down to the bottom, (or as far as the game allows), and actually start mining the copper at the bottom, carving out a "room" inside / under the node.... I do this for several reasons...
Firstly, I do this for safety... I always noticed that hitting the copper node tends to attract the attention of baddies, even at a pretty fair distance.... mobs won't purposely jump into a trench like that (same idea behind why people use moats around their bases), so it allows me to harvest copper in peace even if mobs are running around like maniacs up on the surface...
Secondly, carving out a room also allows me to place some items that will greatly help in the mining process, such as; a workbench, for repairing the antler pick, and a campfire to restore my rested bonus, provide heat and light, and rapid stamina regen while I'm working. The top of the copper node also provides protection from the rain.
The same idea can be used to carve out relatively safe outposts, under boulders or copper nodes, by adding a portal as well as a place to process the copper / tin by adding kiln and smelter and even a forge...

i dont watch or read forums for this reason, when you find out stuff like this in game it is so much of a better feeling Well, ♥♥♥♥. lol Guess who's been wandering the Black Forest looking for more nodes on the surface when there are maybe 4-5 nodes that now need extraction...you learn something new every day...

lol i feel ya on that one lol Yeah, the first time I noticed this I was excited...then pissed at myself for all the copper I mined before I checked underneath the initial node
Edit: i would dig down like 2-3 hits at the most and then leave

Going to buck the trend a bit here; going deep isn't always your best move. Many times you won't be able to reach the bottom due to hitting max dig depth, water, bisection of node by large rock, or even roof of burial chamber or troll cave. Even without those factors, your ore pieces per hour rate drops past the top few layers as you have to move more and more material to expose the next chunk of ore and add infrastructure, defenses, etc.
It really comes down to how much copper do you need and how many nodes are nearby. Given half a dozen nodes nearby and only wanting a moderate amount of copper; I find it faster to just mine the tops down a few layers at each node and move on.
All that said, getting at least one copper shower in your gaming time with Valheim is one of those game defining moments :)
Yep. It's time consuming and may not be worth the effort anyway. My preferred method is to keep the copper mining to a minimum because it is tedious and time consuming. It eats up even more time if you start digging a lot to uncover more copper. I would suggest you harvest only what you really need to progress, and that will vary from player to player. I'm usually happy with a bronze axe, a karve, a few minor upgrades for my base, and a decent round shield. I usually do not bother with bronze armour because upgraded leather, or troll leather, is good enough for me. I prefer the increased mobility over a bit more damage reduction.

I did this the first time I got a pick. Needed to know the whole scale of what I was working with. Tried disconnecting it from all contacting terrain to see if it could drop or break. No such luck. I swear I've since heard other people collapsing them but IDK if it's worth it.
I'm pretty glad that I tried that. I don't think it would have been exciting had I already knew about the true nature of copper collecting beforehand. It seems quicker and nicer for your pick durability to simply look for the next vein after all surface copper has been taken.

Antler is super efficient, best in class for stamina costs. It is nothing to encircle and excavate the node. Once you have you max depth its quick work.

It's even more fun to mine all around it and then jump on top of it. If you hit it in just the right place, the whole thing goes poof! Just make sure you have clearance on the sides and below or it will not go poof. Cheers mate!

This is normal. Copper nodes are like an iceberg. Most of it is underground.
