Got to watch those trolls with the tree trunk weapons, especially on your buildings. It is important to build your structures like 20 feet inside your walls. If you build too close to your defensive walls those brutes will take out your buildings.

Yup. Important safety tip when dealing with raids though:
If enemies have a choice between attacking your stuff or attacking you, they will ALWAYS attack you. Use this to keep your stuff safe.
In other words, if you have a big wall around your base it may be prudent to go outside those walls as soon as the raid starts.

You mean the troll behavior on the forums or the ones in game?

As long as I have a club and a shield, no troll is safe. Parry with shield as the troll starts its attack, a blocked attack will stagger it, then hit it with secondary ultimate attack move. Rinse repeat 2 more times, troll dies with 0 damage to Viking warrior. Other than my shield and club weapon, I could be naked and the result would be the same. I've killed 4 or 5 during an invasion and even took on 3 at the same time. I have used trolls to break up entire copper deposits and harvest core-wood. Even wooden arrows will bring down a troll in just a few shots. A head-shot with an arrow will stagger a troll regardless of the quality of the arrow. With a bit of practice it is easy enough to keep them off balance insomuch that they can be kept staggered until overcome by loss of life.

I know trolls can destroy those structures (as can pickaxes), so it's weird you weren't attacked. Lucky, too, though.

Black Forest crypts are indestructible but also have less room to stand in without entering.

I've also used swamp crypts to fight Abominations, as described in post #1.

Standing in a troll cave entry and attacking them is another good strategy when you get attacked and are not ready for one.

I've dealt with Abominations by standing on crypts and axing them or shooting them from atop unbreakable fallen trees in the swamp.
