Also, regarding the topic. You used to be able to very simply set each game to "never update".
I used that for quite some time back in Vermintide 1, when the best way to get the red executioner sword was to have every other red item in the game and rush the second map of a DLC whom's name i have forgotten where you can obtain it. However it had a boss fight in it which when done solo was extremely difficult as bots are a bunch of idiots. But there was a wall jump you could pull off to skip the boss fight and run towards the exit. I saw an update, i knew it would be fixed and reading the patch notes confirmed it. So i never updated it and just played the old version solo. No one could join me, but it was well worth it.
Nowadays, they removed that function (looks like epic isn't the only one evolving backwards), so you can't do it easily anymore. As stated above, you can fool Steam into not updating.

at the same time they removed feature that allowed to download any older version of any steam game ;d
now you need special program to do this


I wouldn't be surprised if people used it to cause problems or some random law from random place on earth considered it bad or whatever ;d

but when I set to not update game unless I laumch it then steam doesn't update it automatically
I have to either force update manually or launch game

Jea i already have backups, but its still annoying.
And its really strange this is happening, thats why i am raging.
I already had it happening several times in the past which ruined 3 good skyrim modsetups for me, several hundreds of hours of fiddling around for the trashbin - thx for nothing steam

I know, thing is i didnt launcht it and steam decided to force an update on me anyways.

you could just trick steam to believe the game is updated ;D
once you have game on the version you want... simply winrar it
IF game updates... you simply let it finish and then unwinrar the files afterwards
you replace "new version" with your version and everything works + steam thinks game is updated

it will give you time until next update

You have to take Steam offline and play the game in offline mode. Otherwise, the game will automatically apply any pending updates when you launch it.
