2 star Boar Breeding

Do 2 star boars breed 2 star piggys? Do 2 star wolves breed 2 star?
I've seen people talk about getting a 2 star and breeding but.... wtf. I begin to doubt them. Found a 1 star and 2 star boar. Woot. So I tamed them. They were by one of the boar rune stones. Ok so then getting them back.
This little piggy did not want to leave that stone. The 1 star went into the boat fine. The 2 star... not so much. Once it was X far away from the stone it went nuts trying to get back. Since its tame you can harpoon it. It wins in a pushing contest.
Ok piggy challenge accepted. 2 game days later... I built a corral and slowly moved it towards my boat by wedging myself between it and the fence... it was constantly pushing to get back. Dropping new fences in. I finally drop it in my boat and .. what! it weighs enough that when it gets on the edge of the boat it can jump off.... and back to the stone. Once it stopped at the stone you could push it like a normal critter till it tried to move again. Got it in the boat again and same thing. So I decided to build the pen there. I can teleport so no biggy piggy. Just about done and a skelton comes and kills it.
Now when I had the 1 star in the boat and the 2 star at the edge of the ramp into the boat fighting it I got pinned while they made a piggy... not sure how the mechanics of that worked but the piggy just grew up and it appears to be no star.
1 Star boar was fine with the boat when It wasn't moving. 10 seconds after starting back it ...somethinged and poof dead and gone.

Only way I see is harpoon on the same landmass. Or remote pig farm.

If you have only two star boars, you will always get two star boar offspring from them

My friend and I have a two star boar farm....the difficult part is finding enough food for all of them. We need to start growing carrots

When finding and taming a 2 star boar near a Boar Rune, the best strategy is to breed it right there, then move the offspring. A 2 star will always produce a 2 star in my experience. A 2 star tamed near a Boar Rune will always remain near the rune, it's a pain in the derriere. I've never successfully relocated one, but their offspring will relocate fairly easily ...

The other option is to build a boar pen around the Rune, like I did.

Or move your base there , move pigs is a real pain in the game right now
Have same luck in my 2nd good seed but i didnt get a formal base yet so i make my base close to the runestones and make a breed tower right there , was far too easy than move then into a boat
And yes , if you breed 2* with 1* there is 50/50 chances to get 2* or 1 * , when breed enought 2* kill all 1* pigs ...

Remote pig farm's work great, especially if you place your beehives, and carrots/turnips at same place surrounded by your tree farm. Only need lightweight fencing to keep the locals out and don't have to worry about raids since you only need two base structures there; a portal, and a workbench.

Breeding doesnt work if you are far of the place , will grow already borned piggies but pig will not mate if you arent 64m close ...

The final piggy star rating is 50/50, either it's one parent or it's the other. As long as you find a single 2 star, just keep on breeding until you get more, then cull the rest.

Do beware that the world beyond your vision range is frozen. Some items (like smelters) will hyper fast forward when the region reactivates, but animals can not. There aren't any items which force a zone to stay active, sadly.

They only mate after feeding and then only so often anyhow; you'll be there for a long enough period of time every few days to tend the hives, crops, and cut trees. Also it isn't 64 meters. IIRC it is a bit further than that as a minimum and the max is quite a bit further, exact distances are dependent upon location within zone.

[edit] correction, 64 meters is the *minimum*, maximum is 181. Average is 122-ish, it all depends on where you and the animals are in relation to the zone borders. In my own experience, I've found 100 meters to be a good starting guesstimate. (also easy to find since it is the render distance for 2x2 wall with medium settings).

Wrong. Piggies will grow up. What doesn't happen is breeding. [edit] or eating or taming.

Several people commented that piggys follow the parents. The 2 star and 1 star bred and made a no star. Now it was forced away from the stone and maybe that did something. Perhaps the magic is being close enough to the stone to make a X star. If they're too far they just make a no star. That would mean the rune stone is essential for star piggys. Be interesting to see if no stars can breed stars around a stone.

Rune stone just work for 1 time spawn for 2* 1* adult pigs , after that have nothing to do with breed
I have a breed tower with 4 2*boars in the top , always drops 2* piggies

Feed & breed. Simplest successful breed: place 2 portions of food near 2 adjacent boars so they come together to consume. Copulation usually takes place when boars come together after eating. I make square boar pens and throw 4-8 stax of food into the corners so that when they feed they are forced into close proximity to one another.

Feed them before nightfall as long as you are sleeping within proximity distance of your boars. Having a boar pen within alert distance of ones bed rest location is extremely advantageous, as they will breed and reproduce while sleeping. The other option is to feed them in the morning just before you engage in some activity within alert detection distance of your singular of boars, such as crop planting. I place small plots of garden within my boar pens, then will turn off auto pickup when harvesting my crops. I have a small breeding area right next to my bed rest location, separate but attached to my larger boar pen. The more space boar have the more likely they are to reproduce. When boar are cramped and tightly packed together they are less likely to reproduce.

So do 2 star boar and wolf spawn as 2 star or do they become 2 star? I'm hunting for another 2 star boar now that I won't try to transport. Should I kill all the boars by the stones or do 2 star develop over time from some trigger?

I found a 1 star that was not by a runestone. So far breeding tame around a runestone has not produced any star piggies.

AFAIK there is no game mechanic for changing the number of stars a creature has after it spawns. Instead, stars are determined during the spawning process. If you are too close to the center of the map, normal boar spawns won't have stars. (but breeding works just fine)
